That is a great resturant i worked at big mike's when it was on chilsolm rd an it was great the people who worked with me were the best an the food was wonderful i don't know what has happen now but i assure you it's not the food it has great owner's who have put alot of time an effort into making it work...
They had really gross luke-warm bottles of squeeze butter that had been sitting out all day on each table. It was unsavory to say the least. That coupled with the grade C non-premium mystery meat probably contributed to their demise.
The original Big Mike's had some really premium beef, custom cut, at your table and cooked to perfection. Then it sold to a new owner. They seemed to move around a bit, hard to keep up with their location. Not too shocking that they have gone out of business...no forwarding address...?

I remember them rolling out a whole ribeye and cutting it to order and then cooking it over coals. I went there a few times and liked the fact that I could get a custom cut of beef (read: very thick) done the way I wanted.
Is there anywhere else that still does that?

Definitely better when Mike owned it although not as great as some thought imo,but decent

Blackacre, I can still get the custom cut (thick) ribeye at a little place in Elkmont, Alabama, but you have to ask for it...

Big Mike's was not good food. Plus, I don't want to go to a steak place where I can't even get a glass of wine to go with the steak.
I went to Big Mike's in Florence a few times and it was great.
HE moved it to MSC himself and operated it until he sold out to 3 of his Employees. They did a good job, in my opinion, and I can honestly say I have never had anything bad from Big Mikes.
I wish they would rebuild and open in MSC just where they were before it burned down.

Wow. I worked at the Chisolm Rd location, too!
