Big Mike's Fish and Steak

Get with the times "Big Mike" (Don and Trella).

AND, Times Daily should remind all of their advertisers to read the Food Talk Forum - daily!

they are just not the same since they left muscle shoals.

Big Mikes can be Ok..... but they are not the place to go if you want crab and filet mignon. They cannot do fancy stuff right. Now if you want a hamburger steak or catfish, they are great.

My family ate at Big Mike's too and it was horrible.
Even Gordon Ramsey's kitchen Nightmare's can't
save this place.

What happened to Big Mike?

I worked for them when I was in high school--they had just opened on Chisolm Road in Florence. It was packed EVERY NIGHT just about.

Had lots of fun in there.

That could be, maybe they should change their sign to Big Mikes Hamburgers and Catfish instead of Steak and Fish.

We were pleased with the salad bar. Service was a bit slow. Waitress was attentive. I had the grilled chicken and personally did not care for the sweet flavor but that's just MO - others may like it. It was tender and juicy, though. I didn't like it well enough to return.

The Big Mike's on Chisolm Road was sold to another Mike if I am remembering correctly. We used to eat there often and it was great. Never went to the one in Muscle Shoals that burned and plan to continue that plan.

We ate there this past week and it was AWFUL! I sent my food back and DID NOT request anything else. The chicken and pasta was so buttered up and running off the plate (no kidding, when they set the plate down it made a huge mess on the table. Just totally gross. We will never go back again!!

I have heard so many folks talk about their bad experiences there. I have been there once and will not return. I don't recall anyone who said it was good.

Have they tied Staggs yet?

Big Mikes, several years ago, when it was in the old location on Chisholm Rd used to be fantastic. Mike would wheel a cart out to your table and you could have him cut your steak right in front of your eye then send it back for cooking. The charcoal grill was right up at the front door and you could go watch your steak being cooked.

Today Big Mikes is nothing of what it was and I don't even know if Mike still owns it. Every move they made, from the original location, kept taking their quality a step down and their most recent location is, I agree, the worst and I don't suspect that they will continue to stay in business performing as poorly. Famous Dave's BBQ started out, in that location, doing great also but over the years they also let their service and quality drop. I hate to see that Big Mikes has become what it has for I can well remember the old Chisholm location and having one of the best steaks there. The Salad bar was small but well stocked and kept and most everything they cooked was very hot and exactly as ordered.

Best steaks in the Shoals now has to be Dales and Georges still but there is also a very good steakhouse in Moulton, on the East Side of town, on the right as you pass the last traffic light. It's more than well worth the drive to Moulton (25 to 30 miles) and their quality is top notch, much like Big Mikes used to be and Oh! Bryans and their prices are very reasonable. They also have a great salad bar.
