I notice Food Land has hiked their prices in Killen. I also noticed that you can get TrowBridges
Pimento Cheese at the Food Land on old Huntsville rd. cheaper than the other food Land locations.

The article in the paper about the closing of Famous Dave's did not mention the rising cost of rent. They blamed it on the competitiveness of the restaurant business.

Trader, what was your experience? Just curious. My other half claims to be willing to eat there daily. I don't agree. I certainly don't like it that well. Fact is, I like change. I don't want to eat ANYWHERE over and over. He always eats catfish. I have steak. It is ok, but the hushpuppies always seem extremely greasy. I try to eat on the healthy side, which means not having red meat often. He will eat anything that doesn't move, well, if it doesnt move too fast.

The steaks each time were less than tender..I find anytime you have to saw to cut the meat or your jaws are sore from chewing when you get home...the quality of meat did not meet the price regardless of price.....Their salad bar was less than average at best...
I like a beer or wine with my meal especially with steak...in Muscle Shoals they did not serve alcohol...
I hope they have a different supplier for their steaks...their fish I have not tried...
They are competing with Logans, Texas Roadhouse, Legends, etc...if they do not serve alcohol with the meal...the 8 second whistle has blown before the gate is even open...
I predict you will see a vacate building in 12 months if not sooner...if changes have not been made...they cannot compete with quality or meeting the dining request of the individuals who frequent those type of establishments..
Well, I'll give my two cents as my "handle" implies. I had lunch there last week. First off, I must say that it is a bit hard to "lunch" there on a budget but that is not the restaurant's fault but it does leave one limited when the mouth waters but the wallet is dry. I chose, simply...the burger. Now, I realize that in today's health conscious reality that ground meat cannot be served any way but well-done. However, if I remember correctly the server allowed me to order the meat as "medium well" without a comment and it was served "charred" so I will say that by the time I carved all of the black off of it I had worked up quite an appetite and it really wasn't a bad burger but almost the size of a Krystal by that time. I was asked by a co-worker why I did that and I said "I don't like for it to taste like cow manure smells"...perhaps I am in the wrong for that since I have been questioned before but I simply don't like to have to eat char off of a burger (and I often quote that I torture my food before I eat it)! I will point out that I had positive experiences when Big Mike's was on Chisholm and in Muscle Shoals and I will not judge them based on this one experience. However, I really think they should perhaps have a more "lunch friendly" menu for those of us on a budget and it seems that a lot of people are not as bothered by char on their charbroiled burgers as I am...I'm sure I will be there again soon and will "chime as" as to the service.

My family and I went there the night that they opened. To me, they weren't organized at all. We had the worst waitress and worst service than anywhere else we've ever been, and that includes O'Charley's (another story). It took 10 minutes to just come and welcome us and get our drink order; another 10 minutes to get our drinks, which they forgot mine; another 10 minutes to get my drink and the food order; another 30 minutes to get the food, again, they forgot my food; another 10 minutes to get my food; and another 20 minutes to get the bill.

I don't know if it's because they just opened up, but come on...they've been in business for years and should know how to run it.

As for the food, it was ok. It'll be a while before I give them a second chance.

One good note, the owner's daughter, a waitress there, was very nice and easy to talk to. She should give some of the other waitresses some tips on good service.
My wife & I went by Big Mike’s this afternoon after we got out of the movie. It was just a little after 4 pm so we figured we wouldn’t have to wait for a table and would get better than average service because they were less crowded.

We were right on the no crowd, but wrong on having to wait on a table. We walked in and there was no one at the cash register stand to welcome you and get you a table. Finally after about a 10 minute wait, one of the waitresses came up and showed us to a table. Then a waiter came by in a few minutes and got our drink order. In the meantime, another waitress came by and started taking our drink order (again) and food order. My wife ordered the 8 oz Fillet ($17.95 ouch) and I ordered the 10 oz Ribeye ($12.95). Both of us opted for the salad bar. She had the mushrooms as a side item and I had fries.

The salad bar was a disappointment. Very poorly laid out and displayed, not to mention a meager selection of items. The salad bowls were the cheap wooden type that is a sort of patchwork of wood. All in all the salad bar rated about a 6 out of 10.

The meal arrived in good time and the first thing I noticed was that my steak was hanging off the edge of the platter, not because it was that big but because the cook didn’t care how it landed on the platter. There was lots of extra grease and marinade on the plate as well. Not very appetizing looking. The fries were the crinkle cut type which is the cheapest there is. My wife’s steak was presented better and her mushrooms were swimming in a bowl with onions having been cooked with them. Not my idea of sautéed mushrooms. Both the steaks had been drenched in whatever concoction of cooking marinade that they use which primarily consists of Liquid Smoke. Rating out of 10 on the meat was 7 (it was tender), fries 5, mushrooms 6

The place itself is very drab inside with no piazza. When they were putting the place together they opted for the cheapest chairs available which are neither comfortable nor appealing in a want to be steak house. Also, the steak knives appeared to fugitives from a sawmill landslide. Beverages were served in the cheap plastic glasses at a $1.25 each. There was no background music playing so kitchen noises and the hired help group gropes could be heard more distinctly in the dining area. Ambiance and décor gets a 6.

My total bill came to a shade under $36.00 and with the tip kicked it over $40.00. A lot of money for a mediocre meal.
Overall rating applied in a generous manner would be a 7 out of 10.

In my opinion for the same money there are a number of better choices available such as Logans, Texas Roadhouse, O’Bryans, and Legends.

Prediction: Unless things change drastically the life span of the reincarnated Big Mike’s will be short lived. I just hope he didn’t sign a long term lease.
We went there and wanted to get in and out in a relative hurry. We ordered the ribs as they were all you can eat and the waitress said they would be speedy. Well, 45 minutes later, no drinks, no food, no sign of waitress (she was never seen again). We started to talking to others around us - everyone's service was awful. Some other waitress finally brought us food - not exactly what we ordered, but we were in too big a hurry to care. I am not willing to give them another chance.
My family and I ate here a couple of weeks ago and we were not pleased at all. The service was awful! We waited about 20 minutes after being seated for the waitress to come to our table. Another 10 minutes to get the drinks. She finally took our order. Took about 35-40 minutes to get our food. I had the ribs and they were awful. Nothing but fat. She never checked to see if we got our food and came by about 30 minutes after we got it to see if we needed refills on drinks. We had to flag down other waitresses just to get silverware, go boxes, and to find our waitress so we could get our check. In the meantime people sitting around us got up and left. Not just one table but about 3. It was awful!!! If a waitress can't handle that many tables then they should give her fewer tables. Anyway, needless to say we probably won't be back. Service was not bad when it was in sheffield.
