Bipartisan jobs bill clears GOP filibuster.

The tally sets up a vote on Wednesday to actually pass the measure.

WASHINGTON - A bipartisan jobs bill cleared a GOP filibuster on Monday with critical momentum provided by the Senate's newest Republican, Scott Brown of Massachusetts.

The 62-30 tally to advance the measure to a final vote on Wednesday gives both President Barack Obama and Capitol Hill Democrats a much-needed victory — even though the measure in question is likely to have only a modest boost on hiring.

Brown and four other Republicans broke with GOP leaders to advance the measure. Most other Republicans opposed the bill because Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada stripped out provisions they had sought and wouldn't allow them to try to restore them.

Ten years ago the CBO also said we'd have an $850 billion surplus this year. They need to add a caveat to their predictions..."in a perfect world where everything goes exactly as planned". But, as most will attest too, this is not a perfect world and things seldom go exactly as planned. Wink

As a small business owner I can tell you, small tax breaks are way down the list of priorities when it comes to hiring new employees. But it looks good, and that's all that matters these days. Roll Eyes

Well in going over your posts, I have already found 4 rules broken right there. So that is how you have only posters who think like you on here? Just like you did in the 2000 election, you have one of your own as moderator. INTERESTING! I will not leave. And this is going to be exposed.

Is there and age limit to post here? Rocky can't be over 12 years old.
It's funny. After the Democrats got publicly spanked in Massachusetts, Obama started talking more about jobs. Now, when it's time to "put up or shut up" the Democrats SLASH (by 80%) massive amounts of money out of the bill brokered by a team of Democrats and Republicans...

I guess they'd rather TALK about them than generate them.

What's the record for most posts in a day.

C'mon Rocky, you can do it...Roc-ky...Roc-ky...Roc-ky

As there was nothing of value in his first ten posts, I stopped reading them. But I'm betting the last fifty are the same. So either he's worried about his post count or just trying to aggravate. Either way...you may be right.
Senate jobs bill: What's missing
By Tami Luhby, senior writerFebruary 10, 2010: 7:27 AM ET

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Senate Democrats' draft plan for job creation, circulated Tuesday, contains a couple of employment measures and a lot of leftover business.

What's not included in the $85 billion draft legislation is additional funds for states or stimulus money for infrastructure, which Republicans have said they will not support.

It was taken out to appease rattlesnakes according to CNN money.com. You are embarrassing yourself I hope.
Wrong version junior.

Senate takes up jobs bill
By Tami Luhby, senior writer February 23, 2010: 6:34 AM ET

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The Senate voted Monday to push forward a $15 billion jobs creation bill that would give businesses a tax break for hiring the unemployed.

Five Republicans -- including newly elected Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass. -- reached across the aisle to approve the procedural measure, which passed by a 62-30 vote. One Democrat did not support it. A final vote on the bill should take place in a few days.

The 4-prong bill would:

*Exempt employers from Social Security payroll taxes on new hires who were unemployed;

*Fund highway and transit programs through 2010;

*Extend a tax break for business that spend money on capital investments like equipment purchases;

*Expand the use of the Build America Bonds program, which helps states and municipalities fund capital construction projects.

The legislation is a scaled-down version of an $85 billion bipartisan draft bill that was crafted by Sens. Max Baucus, D-Mont., and Charles Grassley, R-Iowa.

However, the bill does not extend the deadline to apply for unemployment benefits and the COBRA health insurance subsidy. Some 1.2 million people will run out of benefits after Feb. 28 if the deadline is not extended. Lawmakers are looking to pass a separate, 15-day extension to give them time to enact a longer fix.
Any truth to the rumor that Obama was going to give a speech today on the jobs bill, but there was a serious problem? His teleprompter was broken! As a result, his speech started...

I ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm want to ughhhhhhhhhhhh talk to unmmmmmmmmm you, but-but-but I ummmmmmmmmm

That's as far as he got. The press just got up and walked out. It just wasn't worth sitting through him actually trying to talk without reading a teleprompter. Really happen? Big Grin Big Grin

Scott Brown was one of only 4 republican senators who will vote for the jobs bill. FOUR! And what state was he elected from? Yeah right, Massachusetts.

Why did the Democrats CUT 80% of the funds for jobs? 80%.

Scott Brown, voting for this bill, proves one thing. He is a Progressive in a Republican suit. The stud, is a dud.

Sorry, many of us, old farts that is, weren't all that happy with Mr. Brown. When some were saying things about him being President, I thought, not again. Didn't we just elect a man, without any "real" knowledge, of him. At least Brown didn't lie, as far as I can see. He didn't say he was "very" conservative. If course, Obama didn't say he was a Marxist. Aren't politicians just the most fun?

well I
will give you points for honesty, something I haven't seen on here from most of the teabaggers. I was referring to the crazy birther woman, Joy, who was saying his election in Massachusetts was the undoing of the Democratic party. Glad you are at least honest about a few things. Not your fault really you are brainwashed by Fox News, you need to quit watching it and think for yourself.
