It is believed he was a homeless person that had climbed in the dumpster/compactor to sleep. They discovered the body around 4:00 pm. If he had been there 12 hours, he must have crawled in it overnight...therefore the store would have been closed.
I haven't actually seen the machine before, but if he got in it passed out or was sleeping and was covering up with some cardboard, somebody may not have seen him even if they looked inside. I would think it would be a policy for them to look each time before using the machine to look for anything or anybody that may have gotten into or put into the machine. From what I understand that area has a problem with the homeless getting in the dumpsters to sleep, or get trash.

Depends on what type of compactor they have. The one at my store simply has a chute located inside the store that leads to the compactor/dumpster. Can't see anything in there.
