Sarah Palin expressed outrage at a Fox Broadcasting Company television program for deriding people with Down syndrome and making an apparent reference to her 22-month-old son, Trig, who has the genetic disorder.

The former Alaska governor said on her Facebook page that she was too angry to offer a coherent response so she had her daughter, Bristol, release a full statement on the family’s behalf.

Bristol Palin’s statement was posted below her mother’s Facebook entry.

“When you’re the son or daughter of a public figure, you have to develop thick skin,” Bristol Palin said. “My siblings and I all have that, but insults directed at our youngest brother hurt too much for us to remain silent. People with special needs face challenges that many of us will never confront, and yet they are some of the kindest and most loving people you’ll ever meet. Their lives are difficult enough as it is, so why would anyone want to make their lives more difficult by mocking them?

“As a culture, shouldn’t we be more compassionate to innocent people – especially those who are less fortunate? Shouldn’t we be willing to say that some things just are not funny? Are there any limits to what some people will do or say in regards to my little brother or others in the special needs community? If the writers of a particularly pathetic cartoon show thought they were being clever in mocking my brother and my family yesterday, they failed. All they proved is that they’re heartless jerks.”

And, for the record, here is precisely what the Bloated Blowhard of Bombast actually said:

"I think the big news is the crack-up going on. Our political society is acting like some giant insult's taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards retards. I mean, these people, these liberal activists are kooks, they are loony tunes. I'm not going to apologize for it, I'm just quoting Emanuel, it's in the news."

And here are Palin's comment's on Rahm Emanuel's sue of the same word:

"Just as we'd be appalled if any public figure of Rahm's stature ever used the 'N-word' or other such inappropriate language, Rahm's slur on all God's children with cognitive and developmental disabilities--and the people who love them--is unacceptable, and it's heartbreaking."

One might suppose she excuses Limbaugh's use of the same word o the basis that he is NOT a man "of Rahm's stature," but that is probably cutting her too much slack. As a political creature, The Wacko of Wasilla pays little attention to such things as logical consistency. Her concern is more focused upon scoring points with her sheeple constituency, who for the most part have no more command of the rudiments of logic than does Palin.

two things:

1. The Down's Syndrome character in the Family Guy episode was a middle/high school age girl, who was pretty much in control of her situation.

2. Sarah had defended Limbaugh's 'satire' of special needs people.

It's like people who are both Pro Life and Pro War, it just doesn't add up.

Yes it was a middle school girl, who when asked about her parents, she said her mother had been the governor of Alaska. It was directed at Palin, and defintely in poor taste. That show is on life support anywyas, just let it die.

As for Rahm, he is an idiot...."by calling a bunch of people who are retards retards"....I know exactly what he was saying, and the guy is a joke, cerrtainly not worthy of the office he holds.

I agree with you. We shouldn't be killing people.

Read your Bible, 2 billion people will die in the end of times which by the way is comming faster than you think!

Actually, bitter, if you really want to know, go to Fox and see the transcript of O'Reilly's show last night. She explained it just that way and also remember Rush was making use of the word because of Rahm using it.

A shock jock saying something stupid and offensive is normal, the Pres's left hand man is not.
i for one find Family Guy to be hilarious. Seth McFarlane is a genius! and hey if you dont like it, "get on the internet and complain". wait, you people dont watch the show and wont get the reference. anyways Palin is over reacting, because this person with down syndrome was portrayed in a very positive light. if anything it showed that even though someone is "disabled", they can live a very normal and productive life. of course Fox News wont report how the character was shown.

You don't have to repost your quotes, bbb. We can read the earlier ones if we feel like it. Cool I've never seen anyone come up with a nickname for themselves such as that one. Courageous, bbb. I shall refer to you as such from now on. Razzer

Depends on how you look at it. I saw it as a dig to Palin as if to blame her for the condition. Difference of interpretation.

How do you figure? It's actually is doing better ratings then the Simpsons.

The show has made fun of everyone and everything including people on the left. You either like it or you don't. But oh it's boycotting time when they take a shot at one of your heroes. Please.

you are correct on that. i took from it the positive light, others take the negative. thats the beauty though, we have the ability to think for ourselves.

I would say that SouthPark has made fun of everything and everybody, not Family Guy.

FG loves to insult reps, no doubt about it. There were several references to killing GWB.

Earlier this year they made fun about how big Chris Matthews' head is. I can also recall jokes about Hillary and Bill Clinton, Barrack Obama, Environmentalists, and on and on including people with down syndrome before. It's been on for seven years and pretty much everyone has come up at some point.

This reminds me of parent counsel campaigns where they get thousands of people to complain, but in the end 99% didn't even watch the show. Again, it wouldn't have come up if it didn't involve Palin.

One person who supports the “Family Guy” staff is Andrea Fay Friedman, the 39-year-old actor and public speaker who played Ellen in that episode. Like the character, Ms. Friedman also has Down syndrome.

In an e-mail message sent on Thursday to The New York Times, Ms. Friedman wrote:

I guess former Governor Palin does not have a sense of humor. I thought the line “I am the daughter of the former governor of Alaska” was very funny. I think the word is “sarcasm.”

In my family we think laughing is good. My parents raised me to have a sense of humor and to live a normal life.

Let's get the family guy to start making fun of the folks with AIDS. Bet you'd change your pathetic tune in a hurry.
