More cover up from them. I'm sure Nobama's bunch called to tell them to do so. This is just like the crap with the coal mine explosion. OSHA was at the coal mine that day when the explosion happened. Did they shut it down, no they didn't. More government oversight that has a blind eye when problems are there just as like all crap that was going on at the oil rig.
Harleyfist , you are sure of this ? All we have to do is boycott BP and leave our government out of it . We didnt do it and to slam anyone in our government for this fiasco is just wrong . BP needs to pay out the nose , after all they are taunting the public with the fact they are still making huge profits despite this fiasco . USA has nothing to do with the way they are handling or mishandling this mess .

I couldn't agree more! It was their(BP'S) well, making them profits and now their mess. I heard on a news show that they make $76 billion a DAY profit! They need to reach down REAL DEEP and pay dearly for this mess and the only gov intervention is to fine them extremely heavily until they really hurt!
All Americans should boycott these b*stards and their subsidiaries.

And as for being a "dog and pony show", remember 'ol Georgie boy didn't even send a dog or pony to New Orleans for a good while following Katrina!

Minerals Management Service wasn't doing their job, either.

Bush didn't immediately send help because the governor wouldn't request it. Legally, he couldn't.

A needed correction. NO corporation makes--or ever has made--anywhere near $76 billion per day. I suspect the correct figure is $76 million dollars. BP's profits in the last reported quarter were something like $6-7 billion. At 90 days in the quarter, that calculates to something more like $76 million.
Hey Bet, just what I heard(or think I did and I also thought WOW!!!) Probably a million- I don't hear to good these daze......
Has anyone yet read some of the reports of what happened on the rig preceding the explosion? I read some that indicated that the top BP official on the rig had a very heated argument with employees of who was operating the rig about the correct way to do close down the well. One of the ones who argued with the BP Official was a Driller, who died in the explosion. The end result, of the argument, was that the BP official said I'm in charge and we will do it the way I want to do it. And they did.

Could be wrong but that's the indication I got from reading some of the initial reports. Those that know do and those that don't supervise, so they say.
