How do you know this? Krystal's left, why would they come back?

Krystal, it was widely reported, planned to purchase the old Colonial Bank bldg. across the street and build there. Logan's, it was said, backed out of building in the old Krystal location--who knows for sure? There wouldn't have been enough space there unless they used part of the Southgate parking lot.

Interesting news, if true. I have often wondered why Chick-fil-A doesn't just tear down the drive-thru setup they have in front of Regency Square and build a full service restaurant. I'm sure they could have one in both Florence and Muscle Shoals and still rake in piles of money.

I would be more interested, however, in hearing of some type of redevelopment for Southgate Mall. It's a shame that in my 30 years, I can't even really remember the place being anything but a ghost town. Makes me wonder how the owners manage to pay the bills to keep it open. I wish somebody with some foresight would plan something new there - whether it be retail or a mix of retail and housing. Perhaps Muscle Shoals should have tried long ago to build a small-scale "Bridge Street" type of outdoor shopping area to serve as their faux downtown, something they've wanted for so long.

Sorry for going off-topic there. I'll eat my chicken biscuit and shut up now.

Semi, you can see way more, in public, anywhere you go during the summer. Hooters isn't doing that well either. Ate there twice, the food isn't that good, but they're changing the menu, and sorry fellas, the uniform. Sounds like they will be covering the girls up a bit more. But, like i said, you can see as much or more walking around all over the place.

Don't know about the others, but ALDI is not on track for Muscle Shoals any time real soon. They are very likely to locate a store there, but it will probably be 18 months or more.  I got that from a regional employee of ALDI.

Any other updates other than the Aldi update?  I've heard that Logan's backed out and yes Krystal was interested in the old Colonel Bank Bldg across from where they were but no one here, locally, at Krystal says anything definite.  I've not heard anything about Chick-fil-a but of all of them that one seems to be the most logical or that there is a sure need but again haven't heard a thing about it.

Now one restaurant that has indicated a desire to locate here (again) is Dairy Queen/Orange Julius and I got that from the Decatur, AL location's manager earlier in the year.  He indicated that the owner of that franchise is looking at opening one here in this area sometime either toward the end of 2013 or middle of 2014.  One also wonders what, if any, eatery will seek to locate in front of the new WalMart on Cloverdale Road as usually when a new WalMart is opened somewhere close a new restaurant follows.

The problem with Dairy Queens is that they're requiring their franchisees to build new buildings/facilities.  The Lawrenceburg store has the building I'm talking about.

And the franchisees are having to borrow a small fortune on their mortgage.  Their occupancy expense limits the owners' monthly salaries until they can payoff the building.  Many owners just got their old buildings paid for when Dairy Queen came up with the new design building .

Notice that Muscle Shoals and Town Creek's Dairy Queens are no more.  Franchisees all over the country either dropped the DQ franchise or sold their old buildings rather than go into debt once again.

Actually, there is a new Dairy Queen which has just recently opened in Athens. It’s located on Highway 72, on the west side of the Chick-Fil-A, before you get to the intersection of Highway 72 and I-65. I ate lunch there on day, shortly after they opened and was not impressed.

As for the ALDI’s in Muscle Shoals, my sources have informed me that the location of ALDI will include the current location of Hardee’s on Avalon Avenue and the former location of Clement-Hill Furniture. I also asked about the Chick-Fil-A, Krystal’s and Logan’s. They did not know of any current plans to build either of these in Muscle Shoals.
