The TD posted another one of their color announcements tha that the bridge would be closed 24 hours a day dsuring the work week and open on weekends. The bridge was opened mid-afternoon on Thursday. I have been lost three times going to my friend's house. Any news on the bridge? I just called my friend and found the bridge is open at this minute. Please let me know something. Cars do not run on fuumes.

I am an essentially flawed individual who nevertheless does the right thing enough of the time.

Granny B, that is my point! The bridge has been open since mid-afternoon last Thursday and no announcement. Call the Sheffield police each morning before you leave home.I do not know when you would ever know if you do not call the police---or maybe the street department person, or maybe the mayor. I am sorry you have driven out of the way for all those days.
Your friend, those kids one of you picks up for school, your grandparents, etc... Picture them crashing into Spring creek after that bridge collapsed under them. That bridge has lived waaay past it's shelf-life! Seems a mild inconvenience to save your loved one's lives, no?

I would be willing to wager that you fine folks would be the loudest prognosticators of doom if nothing was done to that bridge and it collapsed (and it would have...soon). Maybe complain about the trash/litter in Sheffield instead of obvious improvements?

DISCLAIMOR: NOT READING REPLY HERE!!

Wow, Stranger, where ya been for so long???? Smiler
The complaint is not about the bridge being closed for repairs. Everyone understands that. The complaint is about persons making long detours when the bridge is open. If it is dangerous on Thursday AM, is it not dangerous on Friday? Information is the item under discussion here----not bridge repair. REDNEVEDAV obviously has a reading comprehension problem!
Me? A reading comprehension problem? Surely you jest? Why would you want to make this all personal and take a verbal swipe at me? BUT, since you did....

The original article said:
quote:
"Repairs to the bridge will be done primarily during the week and the bridge will be reopened on the weekend, according to state officials.

The work will continue into the first week of October.

The bridge will be closed 24 hours a day during the repairs."

Pardon me if I did not comprehend that statement correctly. I took it to mean - THE BRIDGE WOULD BE CLOSED 24 HOURS A DAY during the week and open on the weekends....and, then in all of my inability to comprehend what I read, I understood that if I need to get to Rivermont during the week it would be necessary to find an alternate route.

Whether or not it might be 'open' at some point one day and 'closed' at that time on another day is irrelevant. Logistically it would be impossible to post the actual, temporary and/or sporadic open and close times during the course of the project. Mainly because they would have to put up with a zillion phone calls during every day from the likes of you...so it seems more reasonable to just post the bridge as 'CLOSED 24 HOURS A DAY - UNTIL THE WORK IS COMPLETED'...

You are working so hard to disagree. We are in complete agreement. If i were Granny B I would be very put out to drive the detour only to meet cars driving toward me and passing me on Pickwick. Like you said- and I said -they need to do what they said they would. Again, no one minds a necessary detour. Just do not keep changing around because it causes frustration. I do believe you took the first swipe - at Rivermont residents. Read your post. KS, referee this silly thing. I am through with it!
The only thing I am disagreeing with is your saying, "REDNEVEDAV obviously has a reading comprehension problem!" And am doing so by pointing out what you still don't seem to grasp, or, in your words...comprehend what you are reading...THE BRIDGE IS CLOSED 24 HOURS A DAY, MONDAY-FRIDAY UNTIL THE WORK IS COMPLETED. Until then, residents and anyone else should plan to take an alternate route into Rivermont. By realizing this there would be NO frustration regarding the real or perceived sporadic timing of the work crew involved. It is not that much of a detour anyway. KS doesn't have to referee anything.

If, by some chance, a motorist drove down Pickwick and found the bridge to be open at that point in time...then GREAT, there would be no need to detour. Someone that routinely has to go to Rivermont, or actually lives there would be adding to their own frustration by 'trying their luck' in the hopes of finding the bridge open at that point in time...Would it not be more reasonable and less time consuming for residents/consistent visitors to just take another route in the first place?

That is neither being confrontational in the least, nor is it a swipe at "Rivermont residents." It is simply comprehending the statement that came from the individual in charge of the project. As well, it is pointing out the frivolous nature of complaining about something that should not be an issue for anyone...IF they can comprehend what they read.

Congrats on your public service. Certainly the world could use more folks just like you.

To answer your question regarding my participating in public service (i.e., clean up, etc)...Yes, my friend, I have, do and will.

[BTW...the phrase you quoted (out of context) was sarcasm...directed at earthmomma for her comment regarding what she perceived as my lack of reading comprehension. Thank you for reiterating my point. Maybe the same applies to you, no? <<<maybe THAT was confrontational...but I digress.]
