It will not be Obama's first trip to Ground Zero, but it comes at what many are calling a major turning point in the War on Terror.
The visit harkens back to Bush's journey to the site days after the attacks, when he famously grabbed a bullhorn and rallied the nation from atop the pile of rubble.
Bush, who was one of the first people Obama called when Bin Laden was bagged, will "not be in attendance Thursday," his spokesman David Sherzer said in an email.
Asked if he'd been invited, Sherzer responded, "No comment."
A White House spokeswoman also responded with a "no comment" when asked if Bush was invited.

Obama Invites Bush To Join Him At Ground Zero- Bush Declines

May. 3 2011 - 8:44 pm

News is just coming in that the President has invited President George W. Bush to join him on Thursday at Ground Zero in New York to commemorate the end of Osama Bin Laden and to remember the victims who died there.

President Bush has declined the invitation.

While many will criticize the decisions on the part of both men, what you are seeing here is an example of two classy leaders getting it exactly right.

Obama was completely right in extending the invitation. In doing so, the current president is acknowledging that it took the combined efforts of both administrations to bring this to the successful conclusion experienced Sunday night.

The invitation might also go a long way to dispel the conservative criticism that Obama has sought too much credit for his effort to take down bin Laden – a charge that is both unfounded and unfair.

It was equally gracious on President Bush’s part to allow Obama his moment to celebrate a great success. This is in keeping with Bush’s extremely complimentary reaction to the decisions made and actions taken by President Obama leading to the successful mission.

I've given Obama credit for making the decision to take out Bin Laden. I will also criticize him now for continuing to glow in the limelight. Bin Laden's dead, job complete it's time to move on. We have thousands of people still trying to recover from record storms. We are going bankrupt as a nation with millions still out of work. Obama is now getting all the mileage and potential 2012 votes that he can out of our military and intelligence doing the job they are supposed to be doing.

I was going to try to be nice about this, I really was!

The last 3 posters, and they are the MOST rabid of the rabid right wing radicals on this forum, could be the rethugliteacon version of THE THREE STOOGES or better yet the version of those three monkeys, see no accomplishes of Obama, hear no accomplishes of Obama, speak no accomplishes of Obama!

AT LEAST, President Obama hasn't appeared on a missile carrier with a MISSION ACCOMPLISHED banner in the background, ALTHOUGH HE COULD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SHEESH, after 911 talk like this from these 3 was considered treasonous!

OMG....Obama INVITED Bush.  You guys are so ridiculous.  You listen to each other and Fox News and have NO objectivity.  Yes the story is getting BIG News.  It should get BIG news, its a big event.  But now Obama is glowing in the limelight.  Obama should be proud but despite my feeling and the feelings of many liberals, he invited Bush to share in the "limelight".  Bush declined.

Obama has tried so hard to reach acrossed to everyone (it makes me sick how hard he's tried),  But you guys are so full of hate you cannot even give him the credit he deserves.  You can't give him a inch.

You resent the fact that the man did a good job and may get votes for that.  The man deserves votes for that.  He deserves credit for it.  You all claimed he would not protect our national security and he did it, better than Bush.  He proved that he could.  Your never happy.

I've gladly given Obama credit for his "accomplishment". Now I would like to see some "accomplishments" pertaining to US debt, unemployment, inflation, gas prices, etc.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, ferellj is trying to be the radical right wing version of Mr. betterNu (sorry, your  co-conspirator, elintoventor whatever the number is now, beat you to it) but you are right.  It should read ACCOMPLISHMENTS as in:

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
