Bush effigy burned in Baghdad protest.

BAGHDAD - Followers of a Shiite cleric today stomped on and burned an effigy of President George W. Bush in the same central Baghdad square where Iraqis beat a toppled statue of Saddam Hussein with their sandals five years earlier.

Chanting and waving flags, thousands of Muqtada al-Sadr's followers filled Firdous Square to protest a proposed U.S.-Iraqi security pact that would allow American troops to stay for three more years. The Bush effigy was placed on the same pedestal where U.S. Marines toppled the ousted dictator's statue in one of the iconic images of the 2003 U.S.-led invasion.

After a mass prayer, demonstrators pelted the effigy with plastic water bottles and sandals. One man hit it in the face with his sandal. The effigy fell head first into the crowd and protesters jumped on it before setting it ablaze.

Before it fell, the effigy held a sign that said: "The security agreement ... shame and humiliation."

JJ, this is just another Bush bashing...if you really wanted to report this as something new you barking up the wrong tree. If you do a google search for "Clinton effigy burned" you will get these links:

I am sure there are many more, but I know you don't care because all you want to do is bring a man down to your level by attacking him.

Although I don't like bush, I don't hate him like you do...this hate is going to cause some major health problems if you let it consume you...let it out and let it go.
I respond to this the same way I did the AlQuaida leaders negative remarks on Obama.Who really gives a flying f*** what these terrorist morons think. No to the humiliation and shame.Maybe they would rather go back to the mass graves of Saddaam. If you want to be taken seiously, don't go burning effigys and throwing your sandals. If this is the way they respond to freedom from tyranny, maybe we should turn the place into a giant sandy parking lot.

Give ME A break please!!! I'm not bashing Bush!! This news is all over the news channels and newspapers. I just wanted to know your thoughts on the story.
My thoughts? this has been done for every president in recent history from Kennedy to present and will be done with Obama. I don't think that its all that newsworthy.

When I was travelling the world in the 90s the countries I visited always asked me why does the President hate us so much...They are not hating the person but the Office. They equate the Office and the Person being one in the same.

As far as you not bashing bush? I think you go looking for things to post that is always negative about Bush and/or the republicans. If you find something about the democrats then you pass it off as republican propaganda. (not all propaganda is False)

The democrats here lately have not been in the news as much as republicans, as far as bad stuff, but when they do, and if no one beats me to the story, I will post it. I like some republicans, my type of republican is the ones who stay in the middle.

Too late for that, schnauzer. From JJ's posts, it's apparent that Bush and Cheney will haunt JJ to the end.

He reminds me of my brother, who still thinks Ronald Reagan is the cause of all his problems.
