Charter cable refuses to upgrade the technology in the Killen area. They claim it's because of the low number of subscribers. But, if they would upgrade, more people would drop the dish, or not get it in the first place, and start using cable...

I'm paying $35/month for DSL and $50/month for the dish...wish I could get them from the same provider.

That is the same crap they are telling us..
We have cable Internet in Florence and the service is awful. It goes in and out and they blame it on our wireless router. That may be the case, but shouldn't someone be able to give me advice on how to fix it? Anyway, the cable company charges ridiculous rates for a service that is only so-so and customer service that is non-existent. Too bad there isn't any competition in the area. Maybe then we'd get decent service.
Don't know what part of Florence you live in, but where I live off Darby Drive in The Cedars our cable internet is about 99% online. Every once in a while it will blip but not very often. As to customer service the couple of times that I've called their tech support I reached knowledgeable reps who fixed the problem. Cable modems aren't the best, but there're way ahead of what's in second place (DSL).

You are so correct. I live around the Skypark area and my service is just terrible. Yeah it's always connected but at night it is very slow. Right before I typed this I ran a speed test and my download speed was 735k. It will go as low as 200k.

That's far from the 6mb speed I'm paying for. But according to Comcast there's nothing wrong. I've even been down to the Florence office and complained to the technical manager face to face and they've done nothing.
I visited the house I lived in as a boy from 1979-1986 over in the North Carolina community between Killen and Greenhill when I was home last summer.

The owner told me: 1. no cable TV 2. no cable Internet 3. must have a dish 4. must have DSL 5. It all sux.....

What a shame....you guys need Time-Warner services like I have now and had in South Carolina. For around $130/month, I have the following:
1. Digital cable, with over 500 channels, and can have TIVO if I want.. 2. unlimited digital telephone services...unlimited also includes long distance. 3. unlimited high-speed cable Internet.

For my cable modem, I am running a Motorola Wireless-G Broadband router....My destktop (which I use all the time) I took out the telephone modem and replaced it with a wireless modem. Downstairs and even into the basement, I have my laptop with inernal wireless modem, and can run internal bluetooth connection via my Motorola cell phone if I need to also....

Sounds as if the Shooowwllls is in the stoneage or something.....
We have cable modem too.. and there are times, where I just want to throw the little box out the window. It does go out, or runs real slow at times, and really all together, wouldn't say it's at all times better than DSL.

As comcast goes... they do not have the best reps. That's for sure.. We had the same cable box, for 3 years, and last month it finally conked out. Since then we have had two boxes replaced, and yesterday a new problem arised with our latest box. There is No sound for channels 2-70.. 101-to the hbo channels have sound. We tried everything we could to get it to work, and nothing has fixed it.

The rep. told us on the phone,"Well, it must be your dvd player." Even after we told her over and over, "we didn't change anything, didn't hook anything new up to it, and that the sound just went. It has to be the Box itself, the sound works on the higher channels and when the dvd player is on, sound is perfect. It just doesn't work on the standard basic cable channels."

Her reply to us was, "Well, you'll just have to wait til Monday." And then hung up. *shakes head*

We're probably going to switch to something else for our cable and possibly internet. I do wish there was competition around here. Prices would drop, and the customer care would be so much better.

I just want to loose the phone since I use vonage anyway. I actually think my AL DSL is a little faster than my MS Cable?

I have that problem in Vicksburg, but it is their wireless router. I cant surf and use vonage phone at the same time. I think they just have my connection choked down somehow.
