I am no Auburn fan, as Peter will tell you, BUT Auburn is doing fine, and racking up some good prospects. They have a ton of people leaving so that means playing time now, Alabama has pretty much filled their coffers, but will always make room for good players who are willing to work hard and train. Calloway's assessment by Saban was right on, and I think he realized that.
Auburn and Alabama both are like two superpowers of the SEC and will eventually just end up beating each other up with the talent they are amassing.

Well, Cyrus Kouandjio, 5 star OL who has a brother that plays at Bama, signed with Auburn. Auburn has the top OL and top secondary classes in the nation, and is ahead of your Bama team in 2 of 3 recruiting rankings. The National Championship isn't really hurting.

Not sure what you are talking about... Going by all the "experts", Auburn has "won the state", has the #1 OL classes in the country, the #1 DB class in the country, and the #1 LB class in the country. As teyates said, both schools seem to be pullin very good talent. As for how good the guys are, we won't know til the coaches get a hold of them.

As for Calloway, I have no reaction whatsoever. Until a kid signs the lettor of intent, they are not Auburn Tigers yet. That's when I get hardcore on board with the kid. Calloway's commitment switch didn't matter til he signed, happens to ever school every year. If he wants to play at Bama, best of luck to him.

But as far as "talent", Auburn and Alabama seem to be stockpiling for sure. This state is still at the forefront of the college football landscape.

WELCOME TO ALL THE NEW TIGERS!!

The ranking of recruiting classes by folks like Rivals and ESPN are for the fans. These recruiting services are "followers", not"leaders". Can a 2* make it too the NFL? Sure. Can a 5* be a bust? Sure. While there surely is a direct correlation between championships and higher ranked recruiting classes, it's not because coaches at Bama, Auburn, Texas,USC, ND etc. are looking too ESPN for recruitment advice. Which is the more likely scenario? Coaches at big time schools think "hmmm...we weren't recruiting prospect X, but since Rivals, Scout and ESPN think he's good, we better go after him". Or, recruiting services thinking "hmmm...we weren't very high on prospect X, but since he got offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Notre Dame, and Southern Cal, maybe we should bump our evaluation up". IOW, a players scholarship offers aren't affected by his rank on various recruiting services, but his rank by recruiting services is highly affected by his offers.
You are correct midknight. The rankings are very subjective. The top 5 to 10 teams are usually interchangable.

In the end though, it is all about how coachable the kid is, period!!!

That's why I don't slobber over recruiting. Unless a kid signs that LOI for Auburn University, I could care less where he is playing football. Auburn is my concern, and as long as they have signed and I know they are part of the team, I know they are getting coached by our top notch group of coaches, thus I'm very confident they'll be ready to help the team in the future, no matter if that is starting(Cam, Dyer, Mosley), or straight special teams work(McNeal, Sanders), or straight scout team work(Owens and White). Those are just a few from last years class and where they help the Tigers win the SEC and BCS championships. Same for these kids coming in. Stay out of trouble, handle your responsibilities in the class room, then stay humble and work hard on the football field.

As for the ones Auburn targeted and they went elsewhere... I could not care less. Good luck to those guys and lets get ready for the spring!!

Not so fast, seems there's been a delay. Word is that either Auburn backed off on their promise to let him play running back or the check didn't clear. Big Grin

this kid seems similar to Calloway. They want to play for Auburn but their families want them to play for Alabama.

If you saw Calloway's interview after committing to Auburn, that WAS NOT a guy that you would think would ever want to play for the Tide due to the treatment he got from the fans. Also, during his visit to T-Town last weekend, a fan in the student section held up a sign that read "Brent Calloway = Benedict Arnold". Add that to the threats he received, the hopes from Bama fans that he breaks his legs... Do you really think that was "his" choice, or peaches? In the end, I hope he is happy with the decision and has a successful career, but honestly and objectively, where do ya'll think he had the best chance of early PT?

As for Cyrus... He visited Auburn alone. He fell in love with the place and the coaches. He bonded with the 4 Auburn OL signees from the Under Armor game. He really wants to play with them at Auburn...however, his parents never visited with him and thought there was no way he would choose anything other than playing with his bro at Bama.

In the end, I think he signs with Bama. But I think his initial announcement told where he wants to play.

Best of luck to all the guys on both squads though.
