Camp Quest, founded in 1996, is the first residential summer camp in the United States, Canada and United Kingdom specifically for the children of nontheistic parents (including atheists, agnostics, secular humanists, skeptics, (nontheistic) rationalists, freethinkers, brights, and others who hold a naturalistic worldview).

Programs and activities:
The camp's programs and activities introduce campers to the history and ideas of freethought. Campers also learn about science, astronomy, evolution, the scientific method, critical thinking, philosophy, world religions and church-state separation.

The camp's programs and activities also include what is usual for summer camps: campfires, canoeing, crafts, drama, games, nature hikes, singing, and swimming. Sometimes, however, a spin may be used, such as the telling of an ancient mythical tale around the campfire or the debunking of creationism on part of a nature hike or fossil hunt. Both competitive and cooperative sports are used. Past activities have included how to make a crop circle, how to recognize bias in the media, and visiting old cemeteries to use tombstones as clues to the mores of the past.

The centerpiece of the camp's approach is encouragement of critical thinking and an introduction to logical fallacies. One tradition along these lines is telling the story of two invisible unicorns that inhabit Camp Quest. Campers are told that two invisible unicorns inhabit the camp, that cannot be seen, heard, touched, smelled, tasted, that they cannot hurt you, that they do not eat and leave no mark. An ancient book handed down for countless generations offers proof that the unicorns exist, though no one is allowed to see this book. Any camper who can prove that the unicorns do not exist will win a godless one-hundred dollar bill (printed before 1957, when the U.S. Congress mandated that "In God We Trust" be printed on American fiat currency.) Since offering this challenge in August 1996, the prize remains unclaimed.

Vic, I'm no fool. Contributing money to educational causes is a fine and positive tradition.

Critical thinking is THE essential tool for sifting the wheat from the chaff.

The following bulletpoint list of critical thinking issues is probably too much for the Camp Quest kids, but you could get through it.

This is bigger than religion, it deals with baloney of all sorts, such as UFOs, demons, ghosts, conspiracies, etc.

Hope you enjoy.

Hi all,

In Mark 10:14 we read, "But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, 'Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.'"

One day we will ALL have to stand before Jesus Christ in judgment -- believers and non-believers. I would shudder to think that I would have to stand before Him and explain why I had purposely drawn young children away from Him.

The people who originate, run, and support such an effort as this Camp Quest -- WILL answer to Him one day. I would not want Him looking at me the way He will look at them.

Keep in mind that He is the God of perfect love; but, perfect love cannot exist with the balance of perfect justice. That perfect justice is what these folks will be facing as they stand before Him on that day. There will truly be wailing and gnashing of teeth (Luke 13:28, Acts 7:54) on that day.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Well bill, since there is no god you won't have to look on while he tortures people for not believing in him.

Hi Jennifer,

When you were a little girl -- did hiding your head under the blanket make the boogy man go away? The ostrich hiding his head in the sand does not make danger go away either.

And, no matter how much atheists huff and puff -- God will not go away either.

One day we will all wake up on the other side of this life -- and, guess what? For those who deny He exists: SURPRISE! - SURPRISE! - SURPRISE! - as our old friend Gomer Pyle used to say.

Yep, Suprise! -- God is there waiting -- whether you want to believe it or not. I pray, for you sake, and for the sake of those close to you -- that you do wake up before you leave this side and acknowledge Him as Lord and Savior. This will certainly make you eternal life a lot sweeter -- and much cooler!

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Hi Jennifer,

You are right! There are many things I will have to answer for when I stand before Jesus Christ at the Believers' Judgment. I have and continue to do many things wrong. But, praise God -- I WILL be standing before Him at the Believers' Judgment and not the Great White Throne Judgment of those who are lost.

Regarding Jim Nabors; from what I "personally" know of him -- through his music and acting skills -- he is a fine "son of Alabama" -- one we can be proud to claim.

Yes, I have heard the rumors which you are quick to bring up; just as I have heard the same rumors of Johnny Mathias for many years. By the way, do you enjoy Johnny Mathias' singing? Most people do.

God will not judge anyone based upon a sin; but, upon a sinful lifestyle. We all commit sins -- daily. But, if we are in the family of God; He will forgive us when we ask.

If either of these men are what you want to imply -- but, have turned from that lifestyle and turned to follow Jesus Chrsit -- they are forgiven.

If anyone actively lives a sinful lifestyle -- he/she is not forgiven; for they have not turned to follow Christ. Simple as that.

Are you ready yet to turn and follow Him? If you will, you will be eternally grateful.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Not quick to bring up anything. He's gay and it is what it is, and your bible says that's a sin.

Hi Jennifer,

I cannot personally say that either man is gay. I have never met either one in person. But, both have been rumored -- but, as far as I am concerned, that is all it is -- a rumor.

Now, can YOU personally say that you have met either man and can confirm he is gay? If not, then all you are doing is spreading rumors.

And, guess what? Spreading rumors is just as big a sin in God's eye as being gay. I guess that leaves you in a sticky situation.

However, in God's eyes all sins are equal -- and all are guilty of sinning. We are personally condemned by choosing to live a sinful lifestyle; not for sinning. So, you have a chance! Turn from following the world -- and turn to follow Jesus Christ; and you, too, will be forgiven and given eternal life.

Give it a try. What do you have to lose -- except eternity in hell?

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

If being gay is a sin, why did God create gay people? Just curious.

Have another blissful day, Bill.

I brought up Johnny Mathis? Where? I don't know anything about the guy. Bill kept mentioning "gomer pyle". Jim Nabors is gay. To me that's not a big deal. But according to bill's bible that makes him a sinner. I don't think anyone can say I mentioned it as a slam against "gomer". Saying he's gay is to me the same as saying he lives in Hawaii. So what? It's to point out bill's hypocrisy. He "quotes" the man but would condemn him to hell for his sexual preferences.

Bill, there's a rumor that a major restaurant may locate in our city. Christians love to say that there are wars and "rumors" of war as their proof we're in the "last days". The next time someone tells me that they heard a rumor that a store was coming to the area, or that so and so was going to have a baby, nothing certain yet, just a rumor, I will tell them that you, bill grey big christian, says they're sinning. IMO to be harmful a rumor has to be hurtful or derogatory. Now you being such a christian and all, explain how stating Jim Nabors is gay is hurtful to him. Surely you aren't trying to say his being a homosexual is bad? Clear this up for me so we can move on. Oh and bill, you mentioned Johnny Mathis. Are you spreading a sinful rumor (in your eyes) that he's gay?

Hi Jennifer,

You declare a man to be gay. Have you "personally" witnessed him having a homosexual liaison? Or, have you "personally" heard him admit to being gay? I have never personally seen or heard either. It could be true; but, I cannot attest to it.

Or, is this just something that a friend told to your cousin's friend, who lives next door to Suzie, who swears to it?

In case you are curious, that is called "gossip." Yes, I will change my word from "rumor" to the more Biblical word "gossip" -- which, by the way, God does tell us is a sin.

And, I am not sure what any of this has to do with supporting your suggested Child Indoctrination Center you call Camp Quest. Atheists and secularists already have government funded and supported Indoctrination Centers where they work daily to destroy our children's spiritual life. It is call the Public School -- and since 1963, it has been the private domain of atheists and secularists. God was evicted; much to the detriment of all America.

Cornered and you change the meaning eh? Typical. What indoctrination center bill? Are you saying atheists don't have the right to send their children to any camp they want? How about church camps bill, are they indoctrination centers? So instead of you passing on a rumor about Johnny Mathis you're attempting to gossip? Got it.

Heh. Wow, BeeG. That first paragraph sure sounds an awful lot like a description of that "good book" you beat us over the head with regularly...And the second one pretty much sums up your belief in it...

You don't have a personal relationship with Jesus. You've never met him.
You weren't there when the stuff in that book supposedly happened and you've never met anybody who was there anymore than I have, yet you condemn all us atheists because we don't believe in it. You can't "personally" attest to any of that, either.

Therefore, you are just another whacko wandering down the street wearing a sandwich board shouting doom. You have zero credibility.

Stick THAT in yer collection plate. Wink

Explain how your statement is not correct? Well for ONE thing I'd think an atheist run school system wouldn't have your god in it, the teachers wouldn't be self proclaimed christians, they wouldn't pray before assemblies and sports events, which they still do so don't deny that. So now YOU tell me how the school system is teaching atheism.

Hi Jennifer,

I am not sure which state you live in -- possibly the "state of confusion" -- but, I know of NO STATE in America which still allows teachers or students to lead prayers on school property or at school sponsored events.

My Friend, a "moment of silence" is not a prayer -- even if it is in the mind of the current Oval Office occupant. He wouldn't know a prayer if it bit him in the butt!

Yes, teachers can still be Christian believers -- but, only as long as they keep it to themselves.

On the other hand, a teacher can be an atheist, teach that, or Islam, or Buddhism -- in the classroom and it is only education. Let a teacher mention God, Jesus Christ, the Bible in the classroom -- and they are fired.

That, my dear Friend, is the perfect example of a Darwinian atheist school system -- the perfect picture of the American Public Education System today.

Temporarily your team is in the Cat Bird Seat of education. But, our TEAM has already won the war. From now on, it is just a matter of clean up skirmishes.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Bill[/QUOTE]

When my daughter graduated from Muscle Shoals in
2005 the program called for a 'moment of reflection' but they had a student come up to the podium, take his hat off and say 'let us pray' which he proceeded to do and ended it with 'in Jesus' name we pray, amen.' I've got the whole thing on video.

Granted this was 5 years ago, so I don't know if they still do it or not, I've gotta sorta believe they do.

Uh bill, I live in Alabama and they PRAY before sporting events. No one has called them on it yet. AND bill the bible can be taught right along with the other books. Your problem is you only want YOUR religion taught, your bible read. Read the law. No bill, teachers don't keep it to themselves, that's the problem. Where do you live? Yes bill, and usually they have a "guest pastor". Now answer my question. Since you seem to think Camp Quest is an indoctrination center, would you be happy if suddenly the law of the land was bible teachings and bible camps only? And while you're at it, how is CQ an indoctrination center? I'm curious because the children are apparently already atheists.

Hi Jennifer,

Somehow, when I asked you to "PLEASE GIVE US AN EXAMPLE OF THE PRAYERS ALLOWED IN ALABAMA SCHOOLS" -- I was looking for more than just, "Yes, Bill."

You say prayers are allowed in the Alabama schools. Once again, I ask you, "Please give us an example of the prayers allowed."

And, I remind you that a "moment of silence" is not a prayer -- except in ObamaWorld. In the real world, a Christian prayer calls upon God by name, most often Jesus Christ by name, and references Biblical Scripture.

Do you have an example of such a prayer allowed in Alabama schools? Remember, I said a Christian prayer; not a prayer to Allah or Buddha or to a Hindu cow or pig - a prayer to the Christian God. Example please!

If you fall back again upon the "guest pastor" excuse -- please give us a pastor's name and when he was praying in the school system. A telephone number would be useful also -- just so we can verify your statement.

While I love having you respond, "Yes, Bill" -- that is not sufficient at this time. You might try, "Yes, sir, Bill" or "Yes, Mr. Bill" or any other method of homage which satisfies you. But, let's get back to the prayer example.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Well gee bill, I didn't know I would have to write a report on the prayers or I would have paid attention! They lead the assembly in prayer bill, can't make it any clearer than that. As for their names, how would I know? What business is it of yours anyway? You make a big deal out of being from Alabama, talk about how you visit here, but you're going to act like you didn't know they still pray at school functions here? As for the prayer, you don't know how preachers pray? Cut the innocent act bill. OR if you're really interested see if you can find articles about functions and see if they mention who led the prayer. You have one poster that told you her daughter graduated from MS High and they prayed. She said that was in 05, but I certainly haven't heard of anything changing. And knowing you bill, you would "pitch a *****" if they didn't pray. Now how about YOU giving examples of how the school systems are run by atheists with government money, and answering questions ask about statements you've made.
Last year I attended my nephews pee wee football game at a county school. They started with a prayer. A christian prayer. Don't know who led it. Like Jennifer, I didn't pay attention. I usually just stand there and try to be polite, but my mind is wandering else where while they have their silly ritual.

As far as I know nothing has changed either. I don't think the teachers are leading prayer in classes though. I have not heard of that in a while. They did when I was in school which was not as long ago as Bill says the "atheist took over" Roll Eyes

At one of the games I attended when my children were still in school a lady shushed my youngest because he asked me to go to the restroom while a prayer was being led. As I said I usually sit quietly while others are praying, but that day I decided that they would not impose on me and mine, nor force their religion onto my child. So I stood up and loudly made my way down the bleachers during the prayer. Show respect and you get respect from me, get pushy and demanding and I will push back.

And bill runs. What was I supposed to remember bill? The man's name? Why would I remember a pastors name that I saw once and didn't pay attention to anyway? hmmmmmmmmm What did I make up to argue about bill? You have plenty of posters saying the same thing I did. BTW, talking about 2 stepping, any chance YOU might stop evading questions? I notice you try to go on the attack when you're caught in one of your mis-speaks, then you hope it will die down.
