Are you guys not tired of the name-calling and personal attacks on the Politics forum? Post after post of name-calling makes reading through - or even wanting to read through - some of the threads a challenging task.

Sarcasm is a requirement sometimes, but the name-calling is childish.

So I suggest we all debate like adults going forward, and put the name-calling/personal attacks on pause. I'm asking, not only because it's silly but because I'm tired of skimming the posts to get to the good (adult) debates and links to facts.

Who's with me?

Even if I don't get any takers, I'm done with it because nothing bothers me more than discourtesy. You can disagree without being rude.

(And you guys were complaining about the forum wars in Misc. Geez!)

It's not so bad if you know who to put on ignore..
You will notice that it is just a few who participate constantly.

Even you said rethuglicans butter.

tried to do something about it - unlike the do-nothing rethuglicans. All I know is the status quo...

Yes, I did, but I wasn't talking about a specific person. Nevertheless, I shouldn't have said it and won't again.

I'm talking about the 3 or 4 threads that have been started in the last day or so for the specific purpose of slamming forum members. It's childish - and both "sides" are doing it.
I don't think there is any way that any of us can change each other's minds, but we can be civil about it.

Now, there is nothing wrong with a conservative claiming that Obama is clueless if that is what he believes. And there is nothing wrong with a liberal claiming that Palin is clueless, because she IS. Big Grin

But to claim that the person posting either of these things is "a witch", or "a mindless fool", is only making the POSTER look bad.

I do agree, civility would be nice on here. Some can, some cannot.

I have lost my temper before as well, my apologies to any one I personally insulted.

I shall use the 60 second rule from now on, read a post, wait sixty seconds, then post. Smiler

I apologize too. I promise to try and do better on it myself.

I'd much rather participate in a civil debate that goes on for 15 pages than to participate in a nasty debate that goes on for just five. I usually just exit the nasty threads by page three due to the personal insults anyway.

And being a witch is apparently not so bad, just ask Stevie Nicks. (Kidding. She says it's a "rumour". Hahaha! Get it?)
Buttercup, the short answer is no. You are living in a fantasy world. What really kills me is your naievity. If you want to put it in political terms: look at the disaster that has been the past two years of policy from President Obama in TRYING to include republicans. They said from the start their mission was to destroy the president and you have to give it to them, they opposed everything and have created an enviroment which has been detrimental to the country and the American people all to achieve their own selfish motives.
This is how these people think.
I guess I am wired a little different than the average liberal or democrat or whatever you call yourself if you are not a republiteacon,
I have cringed at the lack of fight shown by the democrats and the failure to stand up to the republicans and make them back down. Instead, democrats have tried to play "nice" for 2 years and the republicans are well on their way to achieving their goal of total control of government. All because they know how to stick together and never take their eyes off the prize, the country be ****ed!
As for this forum, I only got on here because of the bullying of one of my classmates who expressed her views on healthcare. Before she brought the slurs and bashing intermingled with out right lies that were posted, by some of your "friends" I might add only in a case or two under former screennames (or double screennames),to a political science class and read them aloud, I didn't even read this. When I did read this forum for the first time, I saw how one sided it was and at first started posting on here just wanted to piss these right wing radicals off, which I did royally.
Then I discovered how bent out of shape they got when you called them TEABAGGERS
That was one of my finest moments!!!!!! Big Grin
From that point on until this day I am on here for two reasons: 1. to debunk the lies of the right wing and 2. to drive these *******s crazy
I think I have accomplished both my goals in some measure. I'm not a **** republiteacon but I do believe in never taking your eye off the prize.
Buttercup, you can be "friends" with these right wing radicals if you want. In my opinion, some have already shown they will stab you in the back in a heartbeat if you don't agree with them. But keep singing Cume Bay Aye all day.
Even on this forum, they do stick together. They have a little network. They spot a post or a new poster who doesn't think like they do and start their campaign to slur and ridicule until the new poster quits. I have friends who have posted on here a time or two and quit because they don't want to put up with the bashing and fight the "network".
If you want honesty, that is what your "friends" really want, just like the republicans in Washington. Their way or the highway and no descent.
That is the problem with liberals. We are usually individual thinkers and not from the herd mentality. I mean look at the blue dog democrats? When have you heard of a "moderate" republican lately and if you did the teabaggers made sure he went away in this past election. Like I stated earlier, I am not quite as passive as you or O No and don't really care if these right wing radicals like me or not. I know they will only be civil to those they do not perceive as a threat and I don't roll that way.
Just look at the craziness I created amongst them by attacking the Fox propoganda machine!
YOU GOTTA LOVE IT! Razzer
So not to disappoint, but when attacked I attack back. Always have, always will. And if I get pissed off enough, I attack first.

rocky,

Do you not see the difference in arguing a point in a civil manner and turning the place into pre-school?

I don't consider myself a Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative, because I agree with some things from both sides and I'm honest about that.

It is very exhausting to express a valid point that is at all liberal on this forum because it's north Alabama and the conservatives outnumber the liberals something like 2,347 to 1. It's hard to keep trying to get the same point across, post after post - no matter how many facts you've presented - because you're going to get gang-jumped, forum style, by about 15 people who just hate liberals. Been there, done that. I get it.

But calling names and getting personal does not help your case at all; apparently you just can't see that. If you'd just stick with the facts and hang in there, you'll find that the conservatives hate that much more than the name-calling. Tell your friends to start posting again, keep it civil, stick to the facts and hang in.

And O No and I are not being passive, we're being mature. I admit that I've said things that were meant to inflame the conservatives, but that's when I felt backed in the corner (like you, obviously) and had to come out fighting harder because, again, it was me against 15 others. But I'm adult enough to admit it's the wrong way to debate an issue.

Just think about your presentation, rocky. Name-calling doesn't garner respect, just laughs. What's been said on this forum lately is not debating, it's mud-slinging, and my 11-year-old exhibits more maturity most of the time.

And I consider just a few people on this forum to be friends, but most of them don't post in Politics.
Buttercup, this is from the post Rocky is insane (or something like that) it shows just what I am trying to explain to you:

I feel sorry for good ol' Rocky. I just hope he doesn't go down the same road as some of the others such as pb, ed, etc. For those of you who have been on here for several years you will know who I am talking about.

These right wingers have always controlled this forum and have at every turn stuck together to make sure there are no descenting views and have for the most part accomplished their goal. I will leave when I am good and ready and if you think you can get all these right wingers to be "civil" I applaud your intentions but think you are missing the more important accomplishment: To show to those who read this forum yet don't post on it that democrats are not spineless.

Yes, I saw that and posts like that are why I started this thread. But you have to admit that you do it too.
No, Buttercup I think you may have missed the point I was trying to make. I copied the middle paragraph posted from Fighting Illini, but am on my lap top and don't have the full parameter function so it didn't give the qoute notations. This guy is even admitting that the "network" tries to run off liberals.
I agree with your premise and for awhile Buttercup I was inspired by Jon Stewart's closing speech at the rally to restore sanity and even posted so on here that I would no longer resort to name calling and slurs. The right wing posters (you know the crowd so I won't use the screennames) even made fun of that and slurred me. I held in there for about 2 weeks until I was trying to prove a point with a wiccan who post and after a string on misrepresentations and one slur too many I snapped. So there, I agree with you and will try to ignore the name calling BUT I can't promise anything! Big Grin I do admire you though and will give you props on your credibility.
Well, rock, I was on here at 10:30 when you started the thread about taking over the forum from the republicans and that all the democrats needed to come together and attack them. You even admitted you were 'rethuglicansmustbestopped' and was proud of the post you began that said "Water the tree of liberty-kill a republican'.
The admin killed it in a few seconds. Threats are taken seriously, and if any one thinks you are nice and civil they can see the posts under your other name.

Well, in the light of my previous remarks with Buttercup I will try my best to simply point out your errors. I did post a topic that I think I named this is a TD Republican Forum: HELL NO in which I repeated the story of how I came to this forum through the girl in class BUT you have read the post wrong, in the post I stated that a friend of mine from Colorado posted on here as RETHUGLICANS must be stopped and the first post was water the tree of liberty with the blood of republicans. This was during the healthcare debate when there was wide spread coverage of a protestor at a townhall meeting holding a sign that said water the tree of liberty with democrats or something like that and he used it. I used this to explain the first time I was exposed to this forum but it was not my post. As I remember, and I am sure b50m you can pull up the posts, he made really intelligent arguments, I don't think this tree watering post was ever deleted and I know the topic I made earlier was not deleted by the moderator, I reread it and deleted it myself because it was a little too serious for the point I was trying to make. I was not rethuglicansmustbestopped, was that his screenname?, **** that was long and I was the one who deleted it. Do you not see how immature you are b50m? I will admit I do it on purpose, but when you are backed in a corner you attack and most of the time the attacks are baseless and wrong. Anyway, you just lost all credibility from the previous postings about not getting personal and I hope Buttercup takes this into account when she reads what you have posted. It is really hard to NOT give it back to you b50m and you love to boast of the fact that you put me and anyone else who you can't control on ignore. That just reinforces my premise that you are part of a crowd that doesn't even want to see anything that does not agree with their position. I am not even going to call you a name. Are you happy Buttercup? Wink

Rocky, maybe you should read responses to your posts a little more closely. You're a joke. I for one just laugh at your frenzied attempts to "drive the Republicans crazy". You just don't have the fire power. You're like the crazy old man that walks around muttering to himself-- people look, laugh, and wonder what happened in his life to make him so crazy. You can never answer a question, instead you take it completely off subject and then demand an answer to your stupid post that has nothing to do with the discussion. Like I told you before, all you try to do is muddy the waters so you won't have to face the fact you're wrong. I think you are one of those posters that is best enjoyed on ignore.

That coming from you the ring-leader and seeker of attention here slightly makes me wonder???????

You're not trying to start trouble at all are you, junior? Roll Eyes

I have a challenge for you: Since you insist on trying to get my attention - even following me to Politics to do so - let's see you at least attempt to contribute something intelligent to the debates. I'll be checking the threads and waiting. (This should be fun.)

There is no "network" trying to whack off the handful of libs on here. There is, however, an overwhelming majority of posters who are conservative who aren't going to be converted. Let's face the facts that this country is to the right of center except for the Northeast and the West Coast.

Nobody wants you gone, Rocky. You bring too much entertainment value to the forum for the older folks who can't get out of the house. Please stay for awhile.

Sounds good to me buttercup. We may just all have to put rocky on ignore. I seldom agree with you politically but I still enjoy your posts.

I enjoy your posts too, except when they make me yell profanities at the computer, the kind of obscene language I hope Jesus (and my son) can't hear. Mad Big Grin

But I like a good debate - especially when I'm right, which is about 97.4% of the time (just ask my husband). Razzer Big Grin

LOL! The hubby liked that one and laughed....after I gave him the green light to do so of course. Big Grin Wink

I'm kidding. I respect my husband and don't give him permission to do anything...and that goes both ways. I think you guys would be surprised to know that I'm a very nice person (in "real" life) who only gets into heated debates on these forums for some reason! Something about being behind this keyboard I guess.

Anyway, just admit it, el, (to quote Sally Field): "You like me, you really like me."
