The USA has been under quasi-martial law, since WWI; but it was not until Pres Bush that we had all RIGHTS removed. I am speaking of the insertion of the system of Federal District Courts, Special Prosecutors, and the infamous "GRAND JURY!" Don't look for things to get better before they get worse. The only chance we have is that the last national election stripped Bush and his demogogary of it's Platinum AMEX card. Look at the contrast of events. Ronald Reagan almost BROKE the USA in his bid to break communism. He succeeded! But then it took Pres Clinton 2 terms to turn around the economic fallout from Reagan theft and spending. Then Bush comes in and voids all of the work and throws us into another group of capitalist wars. I pity the next president because he will have to turn this around and it may not be possible. Our largest trade partner is China. If China and Japan started selling US debt instruments today, but 3PM-EST, the president would have to start selling his oil stocks to feed his cattle in Texas! Not only the President...Walmart, God bless Sam Walton's soul...I guess he is turning over in the grave these days, Walmart would close because the once, "Buy American" modeled retailer that went into small-town USA, competing and destroying all the little towns in favor of a mega-store, evolved into China's largest trading partner. Even his father, who I did not care for, but to whom I must admit is a very intelligent leader and strategist, excepted entering to take Iraq. Our current Bush said he went in to finish what his father started, was a rash and stupid statement. His father finished what he started, it was that he had the brains to not start a bloody-charity-war for the oil companies. I hope that my exercising my rights to Free Speech does not initiate an investigation and questioning of me as well; but if it does, so be it. Persecution and risk is what you experience in the quest for freedom, but I hasten to say that today, America may be becoming that which is has been fighting to overcome...totalitarism and oppression. As to the debt instruments, they can only be cashed in when due or exchanged for currency (US or other). The currency eventually has to be used to buy goods or services, including US goods or services. Adam Smith demonlished that argument two centuries ago.
The Constitutional Rights of Americans HAVE been whittled at almost a daily rate for at least the last 2 years... Whether you still have your gun (with permit) and you can still have your religion, that does NOT mean our rights are solid.

Our Constitution was written FOR the people because the ones writing it KNEW that if these laws were NOT made, and a Constitution enacted that someone would come in and try to build an empire out of America, and that is unfolding as I type.

Our Founding ForeFathers would be rolling over in their graves if they KNEW what was going on!!!

As far as debt instruments...maybe you never heard of the secondary market system, coined experession "Wall Street" where Trillions of dollars in securities are sold every day, pre-maturity! By the way, Adam Smith was speaking of an economy that no longer exist. Our's is not gold backed. It is backed only by the faith and credit of the USA which seems to be going downhill; but then if you never see the Forex you would not know that either. When Adam Smith was alive, it took 2 months to get a letter, nowadays, SWIFT does two trillion financial messages a year. No, the USA can never bankrupt, however, it can become so uncreditworthy that you begin to see the cost of goods skyrocketing. I have dealt in securities since my position of Institutional Securities VP at Bache Securities 20 years ago. What are you merits and experience that enable you to write back to me as if I am lying? You don't have to have a permit to own a firearm. You don't have to have a permit to transport an unloaded gun in a vehicle. You don't have to have a permit to carry a concealed weapon on your own property or your place of business. There are more states now with concealed carry permits than there has been since the 30's.

My rights are solid. I can't speak for how you feel about yours. What rights do you have that have been "whittled away"? Be specific. Just to help you out, here are a list of "your rights"....


Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.


Amendment II
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.


Amendment III
No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.


Amendment IV

So which of these have been "whittled away"? Do you have to keep soldiers in your house? Has excessive bail been required of you? Please be specific.....
Short history. My family was in Alabama before it was a state. I graduated from Sheffield in 1965. Continued education in Business and Sciences to degree with further studies at Syracuse U. So, please don't try to blind me with degrees or experience.

Adam Smith's basic principles remain, just a human nature stays the same as our science develops. He didn't think much of the gold standard, as I recall.

alacharger, your FIRST AMENDMENT sure is looking weak there in that White House... have you not watched things being signed into law whittling away at your freedom of speech?

I, personally do NOT care if my phone is tapped, it would bore them silly... nor if my mail was read, as long as they paid all the bills that come in, lol... or that they monitor every word I write on the internet... I dont CARE, that isnt the POINT though.....

It is NOT right, the wise men who made the Constitution put it in the order and wording they did so that ONE SINGLE person could not go in and be a "one man band".. they KNEW, even WAY back then that someday, a President would come along and rewrite some of these laws, and it has happened.

For well over 200 years the Constitution stood solid, it is under scrutiny and I pray with all my heart that nothing else is changed.

First, I'm glad we can civilly and peaceably disagree.

I don't feel any of my first amendment rights have been weakened or challenged. I can still choose the religion I wish, or lack thereof, I can still say what I want (with the same restrictions that have always been present, such as not being able to falsely yell "fire" in a crowded building, or slander someone), and peaceably assemble, and petition the government concerning grievances I have.

Perhaps if some of the measures in place now had been used prior to 9/11/01, the 2,792 people in NYC wouldn't have died so horribly. Perhaps if an email had been intercepted, Bin Laden wouldn't be a free man now. I choose to think so. I am not completely pleased with the current administration. I think they could do more to control the criminal invasion of illegal immigrants...and do more about getting the ones who are already here deported. But, all in all, this administration has done a good job....much better than Clinton.

Nope, I got tired of all the doomsayers preaching "the end is near" a long time ago. If there was a time when someone could have convinced me that it was the beginning of the end, it would have been when Bill Clinton, and his husband, Hillary, got elected to the White House. But, I lived through it, prospered and survived. And, so I will continue to survive through whatever comes along, until it's time for a dirt nap. And the next generation will take over then, and do the same, through a slightly different set of circumstances, with slightly different leaders. It's been that way for almost 250 years now.
