Please note that this is only MY take on reading the article . . . .

When it said that Mr Haney was attempting to change lanes to exit onto Jackson, in my mind that put HIM in the left lane and Mr Taylor in the right lane. So, when Mr Haney attempted to move over into the right lane to exit onto Jackson, he clipped Mr Taylor's truck, which caused Mr Taylor to shoot across the median into the path of Mr Cooper.

This matches the orange spray paint on the road, at least to me.

But again, this is just how I read the article.

That's the way I read it. I go down that way to Hamilton about once a month. The speed limit drops 10 mph right there and it also starts uphill. I'd say the boy (Haney) didn't think Taylor would slow down for the limit and misjudged his speed when he tried to change lanes. They could get him for speeding causing an accident at least.
I'm a strong supporter of folks being held accountable for their actions. If the investigation concludes that Mr Haney was indeed behaving in a reckless manner (speeding, trying to squeeze between 2 cars, under the influence, whatever) then I'll be the first in line to agree with throwing the book at him.

But, I'd also like to wait and see what the investigation shows. I work in downtown Rville and live in one of the sub-divisions just off 43 within sight of this accident. I go through this intersection on average 5-6 times a day. It's a dangerous intersection and there are many possible causes of this wreck.

One scenario that came to mind to me -

Folks on Jackson Ave are forever easing the nose of their car out onto 43 trying to get a run through on-coming traffic to get to the median. If that were happening, Mr Taylor may have slowed suddenly, thinking they were about to pull out in front of him, and Mr Haney didn't have time to re-act. I certainly don't know if that's what happened, but it's a possibility.

I'm just saying let's not crucify this kid until we know there's a reason to do so.
So this wasn't an "accident" -- he purposely clipped the guy? He wasn't just being irresponsible and mess up? He purposely said I'm gonna get this mother out of my way and nailed him in the end? If you have never followed too closely or been speeding or been in too big of a hurry to wait -- please stand up...

I for one have had a couple of car accidents -- some my fault and some not. I have had speeding tickets and one that could have been wreckless driving due to the speed. I have had a ticket for following too closely. While fortunately none of my accidents resulted in anyone getting anything more than bruises and messed up cars -- by the judgement of this "accident" ya'll would have me in the electric chair...

I am sorry to the man's family and friends that you lost your loved one and I pray for peace in your time of need. I pray for a speedy recovery to those that were injured and to the young man that caused the whole thing -- I pray you find peace as well because I'm sure the guilt will be far worse than any judgment from a court of your peers...

He also hasn't logged on to that page since April of 2009. I don't know him but I hope he and others learn from this mistake.

I couldn't agree more!
Wow, I cant believe the 'get him' attitude in some of these posts. Geez, you would think that some folks have never heard of an accident . No where did it stated that this guy was talking on the phone, texting, drinking a coke or reaching for his radio (and hopefully not putting on makeup either). But some folks have already tried, convicted and hung him out to dry. Ugh is all that comes to mind.

Hows this for a fact, that poor 17 year old may have been the cause of an accident that took someones life, and he sat there in his car and watched it unfold in front of him. Id be willing to bet that, if he could trade that for a wreckless driving conviction, he would do it all day long. I sure know I would....

I guess the main thing is this guy's age, he doesn't have much experience driving. He was in the left lane and wanted to make a right turn. Maybe he didn't see Taylor at all, or maybe he did think Taylor wouldn't slow down for the speed decrease because he after all he never did? Who knows? It's sad that two people are hurt/dead.

You also gotta wonder how much insurance this guy had. And you know that Taylor's family if not the older gentleman's will sue. This guy is just 17 and he's already in debt for years unless he or his parents had a lot of extra insurance. Sad.

Sad situation, please note this was NOT caused by an OLDER driver...maybe it's the 19 year old drivers that need to be tested annually.

I thought it was a man who got killed. I think they said it was somewhere near New Bethel. From what I understood there where four people in the car but I don't know if anyone else was injured.
