The usa is so over weight. Mississippi and Alabama are the fattest states. So, how many of yall try to eat healthy?

I'm pretty anal about it. I like to know the caloric, fat, sodium content of whatever I'm eating.

I wish more restaurants would post complete nutrtional information. If they did, would it change your dinner plans if you knew that burger had 2,000 calories?

I was pretty shocked to find out one of my favorite quiznos sandwhiches has over 70 grams of fat.

Just 1 slice of Olive Garden's Pumpkin cheesecake has 900 calories and nearly 50 grams of fat!

So, what do you guys think?

I try to eat healthy as well. I'm in my late twenties and have several health problems (due to genetics!), so it's important that I eat extremely healthy and exercise. I know that I can go online to get nutritional information but sometimes that's not convenient. Sometimes I may not know in advance where I may be eating, so it would be very convenient for all restaurants and fast food establishments to have their nutritional information on their menus. Sometimes you may think that you are eating something healthy but later you find out different.
i eat healthy as much as i can, but i usually leave one day to eat what i want. i do go to the gym 4 days a week and cycle anywhere between 50 to a 100 miles on the weekend to take care of the excess calories of my splurges, cycling for about 3 hrs will burn around 3000 calories. of course if i wasnt as active as i am i would definitley cut out my cheat day. actually i just started back going to the gym and riding my bike in january of this year and i've lost about 30 pounds since then. got lazy for awhile and it snuck up on me. but it does kill me to see all these people i work with and others around me that just dont seem to care what they put into their bodies, and then want to criticize me for wanting to eat and be healthy and look good. backwards world we live in
That's 'cause apparently in Mississippi and Alabama, food=love. Mama teaches that at the table every day.

I don't really have to pay attention to what I eat. I don't have an ounce of fat on me that I don't absolutely need.

I think it's not so much WHAT you eat that matters-It's HOW you eat.

I believe that the best way to stay at/get to a healthy weight is to only eat when you're hungry and stop when you're NOT hungry anymore. (NOT when you're FULL. Full is too much-It's always better to always stay just a little bit hungry.)

And last but not least- MOVE AROUND A LOT.

Wink Works like a charm.
After the first of seven heart-attacks, the dietician came in to advise me about my diet. She started in about fried food, breakfast, eggs, gravey etc. After about two minutes of no this and no that; i stopped her and told to just tell me that anything good and that I enjoyed was on the do not eat list. I have tried for the past years to do better. Only eat eaggs twice a week. Gravey and such only once a week instead of daily but I still want and eat things on her no -no list. You get an E for trying but an A for satisfaction!
Moderation is the key. I try to practice good eating habits during the week and allow myself to eat anything I want on weekends (or just one day per week). My weakness is sugar. I love sweets! I rarely eat meat but that is mainly a preference. I also go to the gym although I'm guilty of slacking now and then. I agree with the poster who said that healthy good can be very tasty. It is all about what we have grown up getting used to.
Best thing I've done to help my diet is cut out cokes (sodas). I drink mostly juice, water, or G2. Not only is it cheaper, but I feel a lot better.

On rare occasions when I have a can of coke or dr. pepper, it makes me feel sluggish and sick. I've gotten to where I just don't care for the taste of cokes anymore.
Earthmama, this lady came in right after what was called breakfast had been served. I had been there for four days and had been on near liquid diet. They had told me the night before that I would get breakfast thenext morning. When Breakfast tray arrived, i was starving. I uncovered the prettiest scrambled eggs you have seen along with two strips of crispy looking bacon, toast, juice, coffee and a slice of apple. Sounds good doesn't it. Wrong, the eggs were eggbeaters or something and i chewed the first bite for 5 minutes before i spit it out. The bacon was turkey, the coffee was decafe and strong enough to walk, (no sugar on tray), the toast was whole wheat, (cold as ice), but the juice was orange imitation and after all that I was afraid to try the apple. Being pure ole southern boy; i expected bacon and eggs, (the right way), coffee, (real), with sugar like i like my tea, and some toast that was white before it was toasted. Just for her information, as soon as i left the hospital, there was a chicago hot dog place and i made my wife stop and get me two hot dogs. Mean of me wasn't it?? I think a lot of people are put off by all these listings on packages and menus. THINK ABOUT IT, YOUR GRANDMOTHERS AND EVERYONE ELSE USED TO EAT LARD, FRIED FOOD, AND A LOT OF THEM LIVED LONGER AND WERE IN BETTER HEALTH THAN PEOPLE ARE TODAY. MAYBE PART OF IT WAS THAT THEY WORKED AND GOT PLENTY OF EXCERICISE AND OUTDOOR AIR UNLIKE US COUCH POTATOS TODAY.
Spend one week paying close attention to how you feel after eating certain things....your body will tell you what is nutritious and what isn't.
I gave up salt 30 years ago, but sometimes would love to dig into a bag of Fritos, or other salty indulgence. I've learned that what my body wants at that time is protein. If i crave chocolate, it's really sweet that i want, so i eat an apple, banana or a few frozen grapes.
Pay attention and substitute. There is always a healthy, tasty alternative.
And eat because your stomach is hungry, not your head.
I don't.

I have always been a very picky and finicky eater so I will only eat things that taste good. My menu of acceptable things doesn't have much variety to it. I also have no patience for things that take a long time to prepare. I work 11 hour shifts and when I get home from work I want to eat NOW not take 30 minutes preparing something and then the time it takes to cook it on top of that.

I don't cook much anyway except for breakfast on the weekends. During the work week it's whatever I can throw in the microwave or some sort of quick soup.

I just went to the doctor last week and at 45 years old I'm 6' tall and weigh 155lbs. My blood pressure was 120 over 70 and all my blood work came back perfect, cholesterol, etc.
