OK! Bad location!  So, let's make an effort for this place to be a success.  The last thing we need is another business to go "belly up".  I looked at the web site and it looks like it may have a good menu.  Let's support and maybe drive an extra 2 minutes and then give judgement to this place.  Enough nay sayers!

I see they serve beer but I'm confused about one this page:

http://www.carlasandwichesandburgers.com/faq.html

It's a FAQ for Carla's Hamburgers and about half way down everything reads Five Guy's.  It looks like they have copied Five Guy's FAQ and replace half of it with Karla's Burgers.

Q: Is Carla’s Gluten-Free?
A: Our buns contain eggs, soy, dairy and gluten.

Q: Do any Carla’s products contain soy or dairy?
A: Our rolls contain both soy and dairy.

Q: Is Carla’s trans-fat free?
A: Yes! All of our products are trans-fat free. Our ground beef, like all beef, contains traces of naturally occurring trans-fats but they are less than 0.5 grams per serving.

Q: Where can I find nutritional information on Five Guys food?
A: Our nutritional information is listed right on this site.

Q: Does Carla’s Cater?
A: Unfortunately, we do not cater as our food does not hold up well under those circumstances. We can accommodate large orders though, and suggest that you call ahead or fax large orders into your local store.

Q: How can I find out when a store near me will be open?
A: Carla’s is constantly opening new locations across the nation and we do our best to list stores that are opening within the next few months on our website. Unfortunately, we can rarely predict the exact date that a store will open until just a few days prior, so we are not able to provide actual opening dates.

Q: What type of peanut oil does Five Guys use?
A: We use 100% peanut oil that is refined and contains only enough preservatives (less than .004%, so that the oil doesn't foam when we put our fries in!)

Q: Can a person with peanut allergies eat Carla’s fries?
A: Carla’s does use refined peanut oil, which is less likely than cold pressed oil to cause a reaction. However, all guests should consult their physicians before consumption and all guests need to be aware that we serve in-shell peanuts in bulk containers in all of our restaura

In Fact here is the Five Guys page the've copied:

Several places have tried to make it with less than opportune locations.  One I miss the most is IHOP (International House of Pancakes) but I don't blame location for that failure.  To me there was no question that it was the management that they chose to run the place.  Maybe that failure extended across down to the individual servers but when it took two hours at a pancake place to get set, served, and out then the writing was on the wall early.  Some said that it was Tourway that put them out and maybe there was some contributing facts to that but overall I believe it was their management.  Even now that Tourway is history I doubt that there will ever be another IHOP in this area and who could blame them given the horrible performance of their last store.

That's a little odd. Wonder if the 2 restaurants are connected somehow?

College students live on two things:  Cheap food and beer.  Downtown is lacking in franchise inexpensive restaurants, good honky tonks and drive in markets/gas stations.

Everyone needs to support Carla's--if the food is as good as expected.  Make this marginal location (with great car traffic) into a quality addition to downtown and UNA.

Wow I didn't even know it was open yet, i'll have to give them a try but I think I'll wait for a bit more feedback from others who have tried it.  Either way I hope Carla's does well as I agree that downtown needs more good hamburger places.

Given it's location, at least as for lunch, the place that will give them competition and visa versa will be Staggs since Staggs is or was the #1 (or #2) location to get homemade hamburgers.  Five Guys being the new competition and at least Five Guys is open past Staggs limited hours and days.

As for Staggs I really like Staggs but I have to admit that I think they used to serve better food in the past.  Seems the last several times I visited Staggs I got a hamburger that had been pre-cooked and put in a metal tin only to be removed and reheated when I ordered it.  The fries ($1.99 an order) were also quite greasy.  Five Guys at least cooks your burger fresh, at the time of order, and although the fries cost $2.49 for a regular which can feed three hungry people (surely two people) they are also cooked fresh and you get about twice to four times the amount of fries you get at Staggs for only 50 cents more.  Hopefully Carla's, even if it's like Five Guys, will provide a 1/2 order of Fries that better suits one person rather than the regular order, at Staggs, which I never order when I'm alone due to the huge amount of fries that you get.

Wow, you guys must be food critics from New York b/c i have not seen this kind of bad talk about a small little franchise since the last time i read the food reviews from New York. I have ate there severaltimes but I have only tried their sandwiches not theit burgers. If the burgers are as good as the sandwiches then I cant wait to have one! They may be considered a touch expensive to some peoples standards but the quality of the food and the size of it will make up for it. 2 can probably split a combo and be good for lunch. And by the way, they cooked everything fresh to order that i seen so they do have some of 5 guys touches. But for the person that so nicely explained "unique" for everyone, that was mighty kind of you but it didnt help the flavor of the food, not that it needed it and the location that some many people said was bad, its perfect for me b/c i have to drive across the bridge almost 4 times every other day for my job and its pretty handy. If they were i  the business of selling insurance i may agree but they are doing the right thing obviously b/c its usually busy when i come through. Give then a chance, they are providing jobs in the area and the area does need them(Carlas), they probably dont need Florence, AL.

i went by carla's tonight for dinner. i had the steak philly and fries. i did enjoy it and look forward to having the burger.

one thing that is going to drive away customers is the menu has a lot of pictures of the food with the price beside it. a lot of people aren't going to know it's a combo meal and think the price is for the sandwich only. i saw a couple come in, look at the menu and leave w/o ordering. i'm sure they thought the sandwich was the price of the combo meal.

this would be a good place to watch sports because they have a few nice tv's in the dinning room, beer and food. give it a try.

Backyard Burgers do perfectly well in their hometown of Memphis.  If they make it in Corinth and Cullman, they should be able to do perfectly well in Florence--a city many times larger than either city.

Not all franchisees come into business with proper working capital--and with marketing expertise.  It would appear that running a 12 hour per day franchise restaurant is quite expensive--with 6 or more employees at all times.

I just hope Carla's food is as good as has been mentioned, and that it's a value that will appeal to all the hungry college students.  Maybe a $1.00 draft would bring in some business.

You got them pink plastic flamingos in front of your doublewide ?

Nah, there is an old rusted through school bus and five cars up on blocks in my yard. As you can see, I'd have nowhere to put them. LOL

I stopped by again, b/c I enjoyed the food, & after I had placed my order, I noticed a couple of baby carriers being carried to the back, through the kitchen. Not sure if the place is a family owned & operated place or supposed to be a fast food franchise lol. Food was great though. Just not used to seeing babies in the back of a restaurant like that.
