Casualties of war
Reuters

Truth, it is said, is the first casualty of war. Civilizations on earth have waged war since the beginning of time and those who wage it were the first to recognize that truth and war could not co-exist. “In war, truth is the first casualty,” said Greek dramatist Aeschylus somewhere around 500 BC. “All warfare is based on deception,” proclaimed fifth century Chinese General Sun Tzu in his military manual, The Art of War. Perhaps it is fitting that Sun Tzu is one of the credited authors of the belief that wars must be based on lies. The Art of War is required reading in many political science courses and is widely cited as the perfect manual for political campaigns by practitioners ranging from James Carville to Karl Rove. With that background in mind should we be surprised by America finds itself once again mired in a war founded on deception, driven by deceit and fueled by the illusion of victory? War, by its very nature, can only exist through a desire to portray things as they are not in order to achieve goals that are misstated through expectations that cannot be met. Go back through the history of wars and you will find one side of the other, or both sides, breaking promises or making claims that were untrue.

I'm guessing he doesn't care as much for the actual meaning of behind The Art of War as much as he does about his ability to twist it to fit his agenda. Namely spamming the forums daily with several articles he copies and pastes from various left wing sources. The man takes not time to formulate his own thoughts or check facts. He just grabs hold of anything that blasts the war and moves on.

Its a complete waste of time for everyone involved.

interventor Yep, it means decieving the enemy. Sun Tzu did not present any instruction on HOW TO START A WAR, JUST HOW TO FIGHT AND WIN IT.

There are two different conversations here, and pba has merged them inappropriately. One, the propoganda that motivates a nation to war. In my youth it was called Rallying the troops.
And two, the means of winning the war after it started.

All of GW Bush and Company's claims that war was a last resort fall into both catagories. To the American people he was saying "war is a last resort" to avoid admitting that NOTHING was going to prevent him sending in an Army to conquer Iraq.
To Iraq he was saying, don't worry about the pack of warriors massing on your borders or the shipment of munitions and materials, I will not invade if you comply with the UN resolutons and let inspectors in.
In the first instance, "war is a last resort," was a propoganda lie, and made Truth the first casualty of the war. In the second, "war is a last resort," was the art of deception. It was unwittingly supported by the UN when they sent inspectors to Iraq, and shown to be an effective strategy when Iraq let them in.
