i am curious to see what others think of this topic. I work in customer service and i am constantly seeing people who are on their cell phones when i am trying to wait on them. i am forced to wait until they are done with their conversation, or i must yell loudly to get their attention. Then the person will apologize to the other person on the phone but not to me. Now this irritates me because i am doing them a service. why should they not apologize to me? why should i have to wait for them to get off the phone to do my job when all they have to do is finish their conversation before they come in or tell that person to hang on. I do have a job to do and waiting on them causes other people to have to wait to. It just amazes me how people treat other people, especially workers who are waiting or serving them. I never treat people rudely or mean. I always say thank you, and have a nice day to people who wait on me....especially people who say it to me. But if you are on your phone and do not say a word to me after i have said thank you and have a nice day what does that say about you?

Some businesses will not wait on customers who are on cell phones when they reach their windows or counters.

Some people have no manners about them. If you are on your phone, please put it down or end the converstaion to take care of business. Either that or wait until your call has ended to get in line!

My daughter and son-in-law own a Church's Chicken outlet here in St. Petersburg Fl. The way they handle it that when someone comes to the counter on the phone, they skip to the next person in line PERIOD.

I have the (almost) perfect solution. If they are in your line and talking on the phone, wait about 10 seconds for them to get off the phone. When they don't, tell the next person behind them to step up to the counter. The person on the phone may cause a scene, but I am sure everyone in that line will applaud you.

I was in line at the bank drive through. I needed to make a deposit & this was 15 minutes before the bank closes (couldn't be helped - that's for jetboy Big Grin ).

Two cars in front of me, first one is quickly finished with transaction & then comes the next woman in front of me. She is so busy talking on the phone that she holds the line up for a full TEN minutes. I bet the teller was more irritated than I was. They close the windows before I can get up there, but as I was about to pull away without complaint (because it wasn't the bank's fault), the teller took pity on me & said to wait, that she'd help me, bless her sweet heart.

I also hate when I'm in a store & someone is speaking very loudly on their cell phone. I'm not sure what the point of this is? If I were the store owner, I think I'd have to say something. Customers leaving my store to get away from the Mouth of the South is not good for business.

I can see your point T S C. I guess I've just never noticed the light or been distracted by it.When I've had to text, I thought I was being considerate by texting (I only do it on a emergency basis anyway). I'd never talk to anyone on the cell in a movie....or if it happens to ring in a restaurant, I go outside to answer it.....

I am one of the "younger ones" and cell phones can bother me too in certain cases. Such as when someone's ringer is on entirely too loud or if they are talking very loudly about personal issues in public! It is funny how the "old folks" think they have to scream into a cell phone so the other person can hear them! I text in the movies too, but keep my phone in my purse so it cuts down on the light.
At the pharmacy, they also have a sign up that says to stay off your cell phone so they can have your full attention. Maybe some other business could benefit by putting up a sign like this. If I am on my phone and trying to order something, I tell the person on the phone that I will either call them back or they will have to hold on a minute. We are going to have to get used to it-some people are courteous and some are not!

Some of them can send messages without even seeing the keypad. I have witnessed a message sent while the phone was in a kid's pocket. He used the texting "language", and did not have any typing errors. I remember a few high school kids getting caught cheating on exams by this method a year or so ago.

Of course, it's a little hard to read a text message without looking at the screen.

I am totally amused over the line some banks draw and ask you to wait behind before stopping forward to protect privacy when the person(s) behind you are discussing the most personal business on their cell phones for all to hear! The other interesting place to be is in the Day Surgery Waiting Room at Helen Keller! I could have testified at the divorce proceedings! lol

Guess I'm just getting old, but for the life of me I can't understand what needs to be said so badly that some people seem to feel the need to talk or text in a line, or in a movie or a restaurant or even driving along the road.
I admit I will take a call, or even make one on occasion but I keep it short. I just don't care to chit-chat on and on .

You got to wonder how the human race managed to climb out of the primeval ooze without cell phones the way people use them now.

..................earthmomma, that's priceless, haha!! But you are so right . It's amazing what people will say loudly about their personal business in the waiting rooms. Sometimes I have to leave the room I am so annoyed,,and the Dr. office and hospitals have got to be the worst.

That sounds like me. I'll return a call or talk a bit if someone calls me, but i very rarely initiate a call just to talk.

Embarrassing our kids regularly is half the fun of having them.

The woman that was in front of me - same deal - bank teller could not get her attention because she's yapping on her cell phone. I think I'll hang my head out the window next time & try your remedy. That just cracks me up.
