off to a big start with an area win over Wilson seven to zero in the Varsity game and four to three in the JV game. Way to go girls, keep it up.

I don't see how you could even say that about Wilson.

Like Wilson people wouldn't be gloating over a win against Central. How much fun would it be if you didn't ever win against your arch rival? Wilson does have a good group of girls, they showed very good sportsmanship. But so did Central's girls and they came up with a big area win.
Hon, You just couldn't wait til you could post a reply. Could you? Anyway, congrats Central on a great win. Central has a really good program. Wilson has suffered in the past few years due to changes in coaching. They finally have a good coach that will stay and do a good job. That is--if the parents there can be patient. Don't count the Lady Warriors out just yet. Once the new coach gets her system in place, and maybe finds out who can play where, they will be a force to be reckoned with. Look for them to struggle early and come on strong in mid to late season

I'm glad people are even arguing about softball. That means it is getting attention. It is a great game. Especially for those who like baseball, but don't like to sit through a 3 hour game. Softball has a ton of action in a short amount of time. I would encourage anyone to check out a weekend tournament. These girls are out in all kinds of conditions all day (and most of the night), playing 3 or more games in a day. The show great dedication and toughness!

It's a long standing rivalry -- It's not meant in a bad way I don't think...at least I don't mean it in a bad way....way to go Wildcats!

I knew Coach McFall (can't remember her married name) but I know they have suffered since she left...Wilson always keeps Central on their toes because it's a toss up...you can't predict what will happen regardless of how well the season is going when it comes down to them...or with Brooks for that matter...it's always a good game!

Since I graduated from Central and since Wilson is the biggest rival I will always smile when Central wins. If you can't understand that then I that's your problem.
Word is that Florence will be kicked out of the county tournament after they win it this year. A victory this year would give them the last 3 county championships. (they were leading the county tourn. year before last and it was rained out so that could make it count as 4).

Fyi Florence is quite competitive in softball with the big Huntsville schools. They have beat all teams in their region in the past few years. Look for the 6A state champion this year to come out of Florence's region. Most likely it will be Sparkman, but look for Florence and Bob Jones to vie for top spot in the region also.

Hey FTD08! How are you? I graduated from Central. Central and Wilson have always had a big rivalry - mostly friendly I think. Smiler We alum just like to root for our alma maters. Smiler
Spout your wins all you want -- Florence is no "rivalry" to the county schools -- they play you because they have to be nice...trust me if I had to choose a game to watch -- I'd choose Wilson vs Central every day of the week and twice on Sunday...and even Brooks Wilson or Brooks Central -- it's like a box of chocolates you never know which one you gonna get...til that last play of the game...
I thought Florence got run-ruled by Sparkman last year, or at least was shut out by them. And as far as the rained out tournament goes, Central defeated Mt. Hope, West Limestone, and Clements in the Lady Warrior Tournament. Central was playing Florence in the semi-finals to see which team would advance to play Lexington in the finals. Central was leading Florence 2-0 in the 2nd inning when the tournament was cancelled due to bad weather. Central was declared "tri-champion" along with Lexington and Florence. So stick that in the opening under your Falcon's tail feathers....
I wasnt talking about any Lady Warrior Inv. Two years ago the county tourney was at Waterloo. It was rained out and Florence and Central were the only unbeaten teams when it was called so Florence can claim the last 2 titles and a share of the other. Sparkman is awesome. Florence did beat them the year they won the 6A state championship. Florence also had big wins last year over Bob Jones, Austin, Hazlegreen, and Decatur. So the Falcons are slowly catching up and should only get better as they only have one senior on the team this year. Good luck to all the local teams this year. I hope you all do well! including Central.

Hope we all do well, including Central? Come on, I thought we were all having a little fun trash talking each other here. Now I feel bad about the 'Falcon's tail' comment .....LOL..... not really cause I thought it was funny.

And what's up with only one senior on a 6A softball team? Is there some problem that kids are not going out for that sport at your school?
Florence does struggle as far as number of girls trying out. there were around 30 something girls who went out for Varsity and JV. Only a couple of girls were cut--maybe 2 or 3. Hopefully, the sportsplex will help get more girls in Florence involved. The lack of a youth softball program in the city limits has really hurt. Some girls from Florence have played youth league at Underwood or played baseball.
We were enjoying the trash talk until someone wanted to start talking titles and wins and why they were the winner and what not. Rivalry does a school good...championships are nice, but 20 years from now you don't remember scores -- you remember the fun games and the rivalries that resulted in upsets and underdogs and OMG did you see that play...it's not all about the trophies...records and rain outs and what not aside...if the only reason you can claim a victory is rain then you didn't enjoy the game or that victory as much as the blood sweat and tears...a friend of mine used to coach and he would tell his girls to "leave it all out on the field -- give everything you've got so that you have no excuses and no doubts that you did your best and you will have few regrets..." Wise words from a wise man that had been there done that...

See ya'll at the field -- better have your game face on cause it's on like donkey kong...Big Grin
Believe me Florence fans and players would remember a 4th consecutive county tourney championship. BTW congrats Lady Falcons on winning the Florence Invitational tonight. They beat Hatton 7-1. Wilson edged Brooks out for the 3rd place game. I was hoping to see a Wilson Florence final. Wilson had Hatton beat but had several costly errors in the 7th inning. It was a good day for softball and there quite a few fans out enjoying the day's games!
Florence has beaten 6A Decatur. I think I would consider them pretty darn good. They have beaten Hatton twice. I know Hatton is 2a, but look for them to be a state play off team in 2A.

Come on, just admit it Florence is good. I didn't say great--not yet anyway. Let's decide that once they play Bob Jones and Sparkman. I'll be the first to admit that Central has a good program, as well as Brooks, Wilson, and Muscle Shoals. I cheer for all those teams when they are not playing Florence.

Softball in this area is very exciting and most times you ll find more people attending the softball games than the baseball games.

Props to Brooks 7th grader Kim Crowson who pitched several games in yesterday's tourney. She is pitching in mid to uper 50's with decent contol. How good is she going to be when she is a senior? The sky is the limit!
I admit that a 6A school should do better against the county 4A schools than Florence seems to do. I still do not understand why a 6A school has only TWO SENIORS on it. It seems they only had two seniors last year with several juniors, what happened? With the number of kids in a 6A school you'd think they would have more girls playing the sport. Is there something going on that no one wants to play?
Didn't Crowson's older sister used to pitch as well? I think I remember her from several years ago.

Makes you wonder about some school's doesn't it Honee? When I was in school -- people thought there was something wrong when you didn't want to be involved with something school oriented. They did whatever they could to build us up and help us want to make a team.
"Word is that Florence will be kicked out of the county tournament after they win it this year"

Well, Softball1, you're safe for another year. Florence did not win the Lauderdale Co. Softball Tournament for 2009. That honor went to the Central Lady Wildcats.

The Lady Wildcats beat Wilson thursday night 2-1. Beat Florence Saturday morning, Lexington Saturday afternoon and Wilson again in the finals Sunday morning. Yes, the tournament ended Sunday morning at 1:00am. Thank goodness it was won without have to play the "if" game. We would have had to have church at Wilson.

Great tournament Lady Cats - keep up the momentum... play Wilson again Thursday at home. Good Luck!!
That was a great tourney to watch with a lot of close exciting games. My thunderstorm prediction was a bad forecast. Congratulations to centrals softball team and to all the players who participated in the county tourney. My thoughts and prayers are with the Rogers High school players and to all those affected by that senseless tragedy.
