I graduated with Brent and one of the other coaches at the school. It is not the coaching staff but the lack of discipline from the players. I hope he and the other coaches teach them how it was when we played for Coach Jerry Hill. Now that man and his staff were good coaches and they were very strict but of course you can't forget they had a great team to help boost them to their status. As a matter of fact the football class of 1994 all pretty much played together from midgets or pee wees all the way through to High School ball. We were more like a family than co-competitors/atheletes. So good for Brent and his wife which is or was a teacher @ Central last I heard. They should do just fine.
Yeah, I remember when Hill and the other coaches were there. The atheletes at that time were next to none, unbelievable talent in all of them, and you guys are exactly right about the team discipline, there was respect to the coaches and in most cases the players respected each other. That is one reason I think that Brent will do a excellent job, he was a part of something that Central has not had in a while.
So what makes you so sure that it will not be Brewer? rolltide418

Is it to build public pressure to hire Palmer, rather than Brewer?
Is it to force JF to release Palmer from Rogers?
You know, I've known Brent Palmer and his family most of my life..They are wonderful people and I'm sure he'll do a fine job.

I don't anything about his coaching abilities, but I just sincerely hope that he is serious about it, that he is fair, that he will demand committment and respect and have a backbone when issues come up.

Central has had a bum rap for a long time...we definately have the talent, and the want to. Our kids deserve better than what they've gotten for the past 10 years or so. I pray that Brent will be a role model and example for these kids and really give it all he's got, and when its time for some of these talented kids to graduate...I hope he is the type of coach that will help these boys get scholarships. My son graduated in 2005 and is playing college ball now. We did all but get on our knees and beg for his coach to help and we got all kinds of empty promises...even requests from the colleges to the coach went unanswered or completely ignored. Finally after gathering all his tapes on our own and persueing it on our own...we succeeded where the coach should have and got a wonderful football scholarship out of it. Its just kind of sad when we've got some good kids that play as well as any player at any other school...and you read about them getting scholarships and how they owe it to their coach and all they've done for them...and you know our Central kids should be receiving the same.

So...with all that being said....Good luck Coach Palmer...my family will support you and the Wildcats with all we've got. And if you happen to be reading this....you've got a lot of people who would love to help you build an active New Booster Club!

Just ask!
I think that Palmer will be a great choice for the program. However, I have to agree that there needs to be more dicipline where the teams and maybe even the assistants are concerned. I am a CHS dad who had some experience with Central football in the past and there are a lot of the players who have been allowed to do what they want. They can come to practice if they want to and don't come if they don't want to and nothing is done. They still walk on the field on Friday nights and play while the boys who have been to every practice and summer workout stand on the sidelines. I hope that Coach Palmer will come in with a "Change in Mind" attitude and turn Central's program around.

There needs to be more school spirit from the community and especially the students and staff. Let's get Central back to where it was in the old days. I say out with the old and in with the new. Good Luck Coach Palmer you have a lot of work ahead of you.

As for the "Central Family" thing. I think it is a great thing that people can work in the community where they live. Why would one continue to drive 30 miles when he can walk across the street to get to work. GAS PRICES !!!!

If Coach Hagan, Coach Hill, and several others from back in the early 90s were still there that wouldn't be happening...Brent and his brother both played during that time so I think they'll know the discipline that is needed. Now let's just get the parents to hold their kids accountable and you'll be all set.

I bet that they mean Coach Harris, when he was there.

No, I may have mistaken his last name, but I know it wasn't Coach Harris. He taught Jr High History, but he was a former Mr. Olympia or something like that. He came around 1988. He started a lot of the meal and workout regimens that the players had not been doing and he worked them out hard. I don't know when he left but he was only there a few years.

Maybe

Yes that would be it -- I'm not sure where I got Hagan but I think it is because of his first name ... anyway, he did a lot of things different with the players that changed many of their attitudes about the games and being at your top peak when you walk out on that field...That you've eaten the right diet and taht you have worked out to the max to be prepared...The coaching staff at that point was awesome to watch in action...

imagine that?? is that just not an amazing coincident?? does anyone hear that "good ole boy" train rolling threw central????
Nobody was more "good ole boy" Central than Greg Brewer. But lets follow ya'lls logic...

In December or January, Brent P. thought that Steve Mayfield might resign as Central's football coach. Then he thought that Greg Brewer would probably get the job. So he found a pretty little 7th grade student and convinced her to pursue Greg in a "Fatal Attraction" for 6 or 7 months... Then just when Greg was going to be named head coach, Brent told the 7th grader to accuse Greg of these allegations so that he would not be named head coach. Wow, then that cleared the way for Brent to be the coach!!!! You people have way too much imgination!
