Ms. Means article is correct in pointing out that Scooter Libby got a "raw deal" -- the victim of an overzealous prosecutor and political "witch hunt." However, her assertion that Dr. Condoleezza Rice wouldn't be a good choice to replace VP Cheney because she hasn't been "tested" in a political campaign is without merit.

Condi has been "close to fire" (although not too close to get burned) in the 2000 and 2004 elections when it was her task to get the Candidate up to speed on foreign policy issues. Moreover, by not being beholden to a multitude of special interest groups from past campaigns, she would make an excellent candidate.

The Idea of Cheney resigning has been a kind of back beat in the rhetoric for some time. It would have a dramatic impact, and do a lot less damage if he resigned for "health" reasons. Blog reports last October quoted, generally misquoted, a Newsweek Poll that said 51% of Democrats favored impeaching Bush. The misquote was that bloggers who said 51% of Americans.

A Newsweek poll, conducted two weeks later found 25% of Americans Thought Impeaching the President was a top priority. 23% said it was not a top priority and 50% said it should not be done. the remaing 2% had no opinion.

I wonder what effect a Cheney resignation would have on those numbers.
