I agree.Case in point I have a cat who is an adolescent cat(not an adult but not a kitten).Well this cat attitude changes at a seconds notice. One minute he is rubbing up against my leg and the next he is jumping off a chair to attack me.The point is he is domesticated imagine what a wild animal would do.A 200 lb chimp or a 1500 lb tiger.I think it`s just nuts to try to own one.
If the penalties for injury resulting from such ownership were as severe as they should be, this wouldn't be much of a problem. The owner should be prosecuted as though she took a weapon and inflicted the wounds herself. That goes for owners of pit-bulls, snakes, tigers, collies, housecats...... If you own it you are responsible for it's effect on others.
His name was Travis. Although this is tragic and I feel sorry for the woman Travis attacked, I had to laugh when the news reporter, in all seriousness, said, "And the owner had to make the decision to stab Travis."

Travis was under the influence of hot tea and Xanax at the time of the attack. He was also known to steal the keys and drive off in the owner's car.

I can't imagine who'd want a chimp or why. It would be like having a perpetual toddler.

I hear Roddy McDowell will be playing Travis in the movie version.

Owning wild animals is always dangerous. We had a racoon and she was as mean as a snake. (No offense to Meanie! Wink) She would pull my dad's hair, bite, yank off earrings, etc.

I'll stick with cats.
It is a terrible tragedy. Travis is a victim here too. The owner thought he was a cute little chimp. But it wasn't fair to Travis. He was no different than a show animal. I am sure he interacted with his owner, but from the looks of things he was a little bit of a couch potato. He needed to be with other chimps living the chimp life, not sipping tea and taking Xanax. I can't see that an any different from the old caged up bear shows you once saw in tourist traps.

As for the owner, I'm sure her insurance will be exhausted if she had insurance for this type of thing. So besides losing a pet and seeing a friend mutilated she will also be bankrupt.

I'm surprised the actual victim survived. I can't imagine what it would have been like and I sure don't want to. It could only be an endless life of pain now.

Nobody wins.

Seriously, one report from on the scene, aired only once, said the chimp bit the woman's hands off as she attempted to defend herself from his rage.

I also heard that he had bit her hands off when hearing a portion of the frantic 911 call.
And don't worry Shel, hot tea & xanex do me the same way!
All that caffeine in the tea just kicks the xanex in too hard! Big Grin
