My first introduction to Chinese food was at the place next to Chucky Cheese. They had good duck, it's hard to find that at the buffet places.

That was the place I was going to suggest, and their Japanese Grill is much better than their buffet. Their buffet is okay, but not great.
There is a new Japanese joint that will be open in 2 weeks in Muscle Shoals. It is just south of Shoney's on Woodward ave. It is on the same side of the road and it is a blue building.
Just be aware of SARS and TB. Those folk hire a lot of illegal aliens to cook and work at there places.

There is a place in MS in the old Winn Dixie shoping center that is good.It is on the corner of hwy 43 and 157/72 hwy. It does not have a buffet nor does he accept debit or credit cards.
That should be good for over weight folks.

I used to love Harvest Buffet. However, it seems to me that after they put in the Japanese grillm their Chinese buffet went down, down , down.
I believe Osaka is owned by the same people as Harvest Buffet. Every time I have been to Osaka, it has been very good. I Don't go to Harvest any more, I go to Peking now.
We went to Osaka back in November over Thanksgiving holidays. I thought it was terrible! The service was dreadful; we had to repeatedly asked for more refills, new napkins, our food, etc. I Love sushi but was very dissappointed. The food was not presented well at all. It looked like it was thrown together. The restaurant was not very clean, either. There was only one waitress who doubled as the hostess and cashier. She had a fellow helping her who spoke only Spanish. We sat at the bar, not the teppan yaki.

When I saw a sushi place in the Shoals, I was so excited! I was not impressed with our "dining experience", though. Maybe it was a bad day. I hope it was an isolated event.
Osaka and Harvest Buffet/Fujia is good for sushi and the teppanyaki. I mean we used to have to drive over an hour for either one. The sushi is average, not bad but not good.

I do have my complaints about them though. I not saying lack of English skills is bad but it certainly makes them seem unfriendly and unresponsive to your requests.

Also I like my Japanese Restaurants to be the full experience, all Japanese decorations with a quiet, meditative experience where I can carry on conversation with my neighbor at the sushi bar if I want to. The banging of the spatualas on the grill, I dont recall that being part of the show at other teppanyaki places I have been too.

As far as Chinese goes, Peking is probably best in Florence. Its ok but not great. Harvest Buffet used to be good before the Japanese side opened, not so good now.

Definetly want to see a good Thai place open up in the Shoals. Pad Thai, mmmmm.
You can order from the menue at Peking. My late wife loved shrimp fried rice. We had even tried it in china town in Los Vegas, but she didn't like it. Then WOW She ordered it at Peking in Florence, Ha, it's funny now to think about it. She said it was the best she ever had. Better than in Jersey or Fl. where she thought it was sooooo good.

I have had the unfortunate experience of being in Harvest Buffet's kitchen, and I will never eat there again. The same people do own Osaki in Florence, so I don't believe Osaka would be any cleaner. They hire alot of illegals, and house them all in two homes they own in Msc. They have 10 to 15 people living in one house with cubicle type bedrooms throughout. I don't see how they get away with it. There have been numerous complaints but to no avail.
There is a town in China which specializes in restaurants which serve only rats. The New Yorker had an article on it several years ago. There would have been a thread which asked, "Best Rat Restaurant on ------Road. HR, enlighten us about this place. I have forgotten details. Tom Dooley, who about 50 years ago served many years as a volunteer doctor in Korea shared that the natives brought dressed rabbits as food gifts for the doctors who realized they must stipulate that the ears be left on the rabbits to prevent catastrophe! Bad pun! You have just been hit with a prolific reader!
Chinese is not my favorite and I find very few Chinese restaurants that I enjoy but to me the best is the one that is in Regency Mall. It's always hot and I've never had a bad meal from them. The Buffets can offer a great value but I don't think many of them keep the food on the bar as hot and fresh as it should be. Strictly a personal observation from past experiences.

I agree, grbk, I like China Express. I don't eat there that often because I rarely go to the mall; but, when I do, I like to grab some lo mein noodles to go...they are soo good !
