Church where toddler’s anti-gay song was filmed: We don’t condone hate

Oh really? They could have fooled me.

A church in Indiana said it does not condone hate in the wake of a video, apparently shot inside the church, that shows a child singing "ain't no homo going to make it to heaven"—to the delight of a cheering congregation.

The video surfaced last week on YouTube. According to CNN's Belief Blog, about 20 people gathered outside Apostolic Truth Tabernacle in Greensburg on Sunday to protest. According to CNN, journalists were not allowed inside the church on Sunday, and church leaders refused to comment on the video or protest.

Late last week, the church posted a statement on its website addressing the controversy:

The Pastor and members of Apostolic Truth Tabernacle do not condone, teach, or practice hate of any person for any reason. We believe and hope that every person can find true Bible salvation and the mercy and grace of God in their lives. We are a strong advocate of the family unit according to the teachings and precepts found in the Holy Bible. We believe the Holy Bible is the Divinely-inspired Word of God and we will continue to uphold and preach that which is found in scripture.

According to Time magazine, church members "ratcheted up security" following reports of death threats aimed at pastor Jeff Sangl over the video, though a local sheriff later said he was unaware of such threats.

The video and is the latest in a series of church videos featuring anti-gay speech—a response, in part, to President Barack Obama's historic public support for same sex marriage.

Last month, a North Carolina pastor delivered a homophobic sermon that suggested rounding up all "*****s and homosexuals" and quarantining them inside an electric fence.

"I figured a way to get rid of all the lesbians and *****s," Charles L. Worley told worshippers at Providence Road Baptist Church on May 13. "Build a great big large fence—50 or 100 mile long—put all the lesbians in there. Fly over and drop some food. Do the same thing with the *****s and the homosexuals, and have that fence electrified so they can't get out. And you know what, in a few years, they'll die out. Do you know why? They can't reproduce!"

"It makes me pukin' sick to think about," Worley added. "Can you imagine kissing some man?"

A video of his comments went viral, drawing hundreds of protesters last month to the Catawba County Justice Center, 12 miles from the Maiden, N.C., church where Worley delivered his Mother's Day rant.

Let's not forget about the gays who beat up the little old lady carrying the cross.

Even if it was a crude way to put it, what the girl sang is true.  Exactly why would that endanger a tax exempt status.  Is gay a political party?  Maybe any child living with a gay couple should be extracted by CPS since they like to beat up old ladies.

Who gets to define the "hate speech" Best? I don't think you really want to go there.

I've already "gone there". IF a toddler saying "ain't no homo going to heaven" isn't hate speech it doesn't exist. And the adults applauding, laughing, was enough to make anyone want to puke. I don't think any church should be tax exempt, but when they put out crap like this then most certainly we should demand something be done.

Of course being a homo is a sin, abomination, or whatever you want to call it but I still have not found anything in the Bible that says being a homo is an unpardonable sin. Of course this means that the little girl was taught wrong, not all homos are doomed to hell as homos can also be Christians. No Christian is perfect and all should examine themselves and work to become more Christlike, it's a shame that so many people push gays away from the Church.

You know I can't recall you ever posting anything positive about Christians on this site, only negative. I'm sure if you put the same effort into finding something positive about Christians as you have spent finding the negative things you will find some facinating articles you can post. Who knows it might bring a refreshing change in your attitude toward Christians.

No surprise there. You're too busy telling me and other atheists that we will "bow" before your god, making negative remarks about atheists, and cheering on others that do that. IF you weren't so consumed with all the negative thoughts for atheists you would have seem MANY posts from me about the good christians I know.

You'd have seem me post that most of our friends are christians. You'd have seen me post that we are still in touch with the people we grew up and went to church with, and that we love them and they love us. You would have seen me post that they never did, and would never, preach/talk/spread the hatred the churches in these stories do.

You would have seen me post that I have nothing but love and respect for them. You would have seen me tell bill over and over that if I had any doubts about my atheism I would go to those GOOD people that truly do live, act, and talk to others the way people that call themselves christians should. So maybe it's YOU that should spend less time on the negative.

Maybe lots of folks need to have their non-profit tax exempt status examined.

You call eradicating rape, be-headings, blowing up abortion clinics, buses, trains, flying planes into buildings, honor killings, hate speech? I guess I would have to be counted in that number then. I would like to see these things eradicated too. I would like to see the laws become much harsher on those that promote such horrors based on their religious beliefs. Don't you?

As for the second one....it is straight from the bible. I agree it is racist hate speech. There are many things found in the bible that modern society finds racist and disgusting. I guess when it is put in the face of those that adhere to that doctrine they become uneasy and want to say it was taken out of context.....

dark, had you rather the world behaved toward others as do you?

the world would be in one helluva mess. or like seven maybe?

What makes you atheists think the world wants you people as role models?

i'v seen niothing but pure unadulterated hate out of you.

do I want to trade a world of crippled Christianity for you birds as role models.

youve got to be kidding.lol

like Genius Gengee said" Naw God don't like the way some Christians act but it don't help your case any"

rram... surely you meant this as a joke... after all the 'hate sites' you and your 'apostles' started about other people...all the while claiming to be "Christians"....

you're gonna lecture someone about "hate"!?!?!

really!?!?!?

i mean, really?!?!?!

rram... you're hilarious!

can you explain why anyone, with a sane mind, would want to have anything to do with you or your hate groups?

the man who "hangs out with" numerous people that run websites dedicated to "hate" of other people, lectures people on hate... you should take that comedy act on the road!

The reason you've got it in for me is because I will call you on your BS and I will call you on your attempts to pass yourself off as "the good little christian" when in fact you are one of the most vial, hateful and disgusting personalities I've ever come across online. You can call me every name in the book and post hateful things about me all you like but the fact remains you are a fraud, a liar, a deceiver and a complete hypocrite.

You mean they're not? That's odd when I clicked on their web sites they listed themselves as 501(c)(3)s. Dues and donations tax deductible.

Then take away their tax exempt status. How much plainer can I "say" it??

Seven that is why I completely ignore him. He is insane and dangerous. Take my advice and just pass up his crazy rantings. I am sure everyone here can see him for what he is. Most everyone on here knows who he is in real life and from what I have been told those that do steer clear of him outside this forum as well.

Crazy people can be dangerous. Stalking plus crazy can be lethal. Be careful.

I'm not scared of him but anyone who knows him in real life should be DA.

It's takes a very stupid, insane person to do the things he does online to people knowing that his real name is well known and that directions to his millwork business and directions to his house and his phone numbers are all just a google search away.

Here you go guys. Type in the exact phrase "Toby Dammit, florence alabama forums" on google and you will see yet another of rramm"s identities(Toby Dammit) at work. Some interesting reading for sure if you've got the time.

The first one that pops up is particularly interesting.

Sorry Jen, Didn't mean to hijack your thread and this is the last reply about him I promise.

No Dark  calling for the eradication of people is hate speech. Which is exactly what that gentleman called for. As for the billboard I think it was the imagery that was the object of the complaint. I readily admit that people do a lot of stupid things under the banner of religion. However, religious folk hardly have the market cornered.

Hi BFred,

You are right.  I agree with you completely.  There is no sin which will not be pardoned and forgiven -- IF the person repents and turns to Christ -- THIS SIDE of that last breath in this mortal body.

The only truly unforgivable sin is to die while still denying Christ.   That is blaspheming the Holy Spirit because it is refusing His primary ministry -- bringing souls to Christ.

Everyone is given the gift of "free will" by God.   That gift then requires everyone to make a choice -- choose to follow Christ into heaven -- or choose to run from Christ into hell.  Those are the only two eternal choices available to all people.   And, for a person to say, "I don't want to make a choice" -- well, that is making a choice.  But, it is making the wrong choice.

And, for this reason, all churches should welcome all people -- regardless of their lifestyle.   We welcome them.  We love them.  But, we cannot tell them that a sin lifestyle is acceptable.  When churches start to tell folks that the homosexual lifestyle, or any sin lifestyle, is acceptable to God -- that is when that church begins to teach non-Christian, non-Biblical doctrines.

We must love all sinners enough to tell them their sin lifestyle is wrong; not tell them it is okay and that we and God will just look the other way.   God will not just look the other way -- and neither should we.  But, that does not preclude loving the sinner -- enough to point him/he toward Christ.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

The link was posted with my original post, it clearly shows the gays pushing the little old lady around.  Maybe you're blinded by hate.

To me the issue could be solved by the federal government saying it is the right of all Americans to marry the person of their choice. If it was done on the federal level, like the civil rights movement, then the churches can go on as they please and continue to be behind the times. I could care less if they accept homosexuals or not. It should not be up to them.
