I think the whole science versus religion argument does so very much harm to religion in general and especially to the more fundamentalist churches. Unfortunately even my science-friendly church has become a victim of teen-flight due to all the antiintellectual noise made by evangelical people. This is so sad that the fundamentalists would chop off their brain to spite their nose. This harsh reality is reflected in studies like this:

Yes I know the source is not the best one for unbiased news (HuffPo) but the truth is still there no matter the messenger.

Funny, that.

The non-believer could also ask the same question of the evangelical when preached at about how 'god' spoke the universe into existence.

"Oh really? Were you there?"

Thereby rendering THAT particular challenge moot.

It it the equivalent of "I know you are, but what am I?"
