There was a time when the city government and the city council was to make our lives better and more convenient for the citizen. This discussion about the flawed cell phone ban has just convinced me of what I've been thinking for awhile. The Florence City Council and a lot of other ones have become activist in social engineering. Recently they have been taking on smoking in privatly owned businesses, and now ole Andy the Nanny, has taken on cellphones.
I'm not a smoker and I rarely use my cellphone, but this continuing intrusion into our everyday life by these goobers that aren't even as smart as the average citizen out here is very troubling. It's clear they don't even know what a wireless device is. Now several of them are even trying to even run the University of North Alabama
There is one councilman in particular from the east part of town that from what I gather from observing him maybe shouldn't even drive a car or operate any electrical or mechanical devices of any kind around other people, but I'm not proposing we ban him from being around us with sharp objects. There appears to be one councilman with proper decision making skills and common sense.
These people are starting to make decisions based on little information or knowledge that are beginning to get in our way of practicing commerce and living our lives conveniently.
