We are dammed if we do and dammed, if we don't on Turkey. Erdogan has encouraged a Islamist government on the order of the Ottoman Empire, while destroying democracy. There are more reporters in Turkish prisons than in Chinese prisons. Until lately, Erdogan looked the other way on ISIS, attacked Assad and alienated Israel. Lately, he's tried to make nice with Assad, Russia and Israel. If the military had succeeded, secular government would have been restored.

Turkey has an extremely important position between Asia and Europe. We need good relations with any government there.
