The entire 33 years I lived in Connecticut, the subject of my or anybody else's faith or lack thereof was rarely a topic for discussion-and even then it was a brief, matter-of-fact thing.  Nobody really cared.

That's why I'm so amazed by the shenanigans of the god-bots down here.

Down here, I've seen christians shun other people whose flavor of christianity has a different name...

People screaming at others from street corners telling us we're all worthless, hellbound sinners and such crap.  Back home we'd call that a manifestation of a 'mental illness' and said corner-screamer would most likely get hauled in for disturbing the peace. That kind of public douchebaggery isn't tolerated where I'm from. Why don't you move back up there dog.

Lotsa ill-informed people think atheists are devil worshippers.  And by 'lotsa ill-informed people' I mean 'christian fundies' because to them, anything that isn't 'christian' is 'of the devil.'. Apparently they either don't have the *ability* to consider any other possibility or they actively ignore any other possibility.  I suspect the former more than the latter, 'round here, anyway.  (I've seen plenty of these zipperheads since I've been here.)

I found dozens of post you've made over the years making fun of the South & the people that live here. In one post you said you would go the hell back home when you could make enough money in our broke-azz backwards state to do so.  Another you said you were stuck here, that if you'd had ANY idea that you wouldn't be able to make even a MODEST living here in Flotown doing what you'd done all your life, you NEVER would have come back here.

Another you said you went from making $1000 per 43 hour week in Connecticut to making $150.00 per 15 hour week here in Alabama, doing the exact same thing you were doing for a living up there. Who in their right mind would do that, unless they had legal problems in the State they had to leave?

Do those Atheist friends of yours here have any idea of the things you have posted about Alabama & the people that live here? I'm as curious as the others why you don't just move back North?

His atheist friends down here think he is awesome.

I was born and raised here and I agree with everything RP said. Those southerners that can't seem to understand why we are the laughing stock of the rest of the country amaze me. Open your eyes and look around. If you don't see anything wrong then you are probably just "one of em".

I have quit coming here for any kind of intelligent discussions. I come here for the comedy relief. This thread gave me several LOL moments. Thanks.

I didn't get bent out of shape over nothing but the way Pup talks about the South & the people born/raised in it. You should read all the post before you comment to something. I told Pup what I said is true but that doesn't make them bad people. Some people's faith/belief is so strong that their brains honestly cannot comprehend someone not believing in/loving/worshipping God. Doesn't make them bad, doesn't make them rednecks. This is the Bible belt, & it's hard for some people to understand how someone can't believe.

How does that make me "one of em"? What makes any of us on here but you & Pup "one of em"???

"Because we got history you're obviously not aware of.  Ubergoober drew first blood in another thread quite some time ago-thereby removing himself from my list of people deserving my respect.  I give what I get here.  I've already made that clear."

I try not to pick on the mentally challenged; however, for pup I made an exception.  There is just too much material and the temptation is impossible to pass up.  I'm still enjoying the "latin kings" comment he made a while back.  It's like talking to a 5 year old with ADHD on crack.  Funny stuff.

Semi, you made the statement and RP agreed. He gave examples of exactly what you were stating about the south and you then ask him if he hated southerners. Apparently if you say it then its just your opinion but if he says it then its some kind of attack or hatred.

It is the south. Not every place in the US has this many fundamentalist religious people. You don't see the kind of in your face religion in other places like you find here. Also, when you go to places outside the south people don't constantly ask you what church you go to, or say God bless you with every interaction. It is Christian overload in the south. As I said, if you don't see this (and since you brought it up I assume you do) then you are probably one of them.

How can you confuse yourself so completely about something you yourself stated? Was it because Best disagreed and you suddenly felt you had to back peddle?

Then you, and the others proceeded to basically call him a liar because you just can't seem to believe that he has had life experiences that you haven't. I have spent personal time with RP. He is one of the most honest people I have ever met. He is straight forward and what you see is what you get. I respect him for that. To see you and others question his honesty based solely on your own lack of life experiences is quite telling of your own characters.

My opinion on faith is well documented on I am not a faith by words person, I try to show by example.  Sorry you are so easily offended by someone saying something nice to you like God Bless You! GEEZE what thin skin and in the context some is wishing you the best And you know it. Safe to say I travel around this country more than you and I can tell you people are far more pleasant in the south.   My best friend in Fairhope Al befrended a English couple a few years back while traveling.  When the British Couple found out where they lived they stated they were sort of afraid to travel to the deep south because or the violence and racism.  My freinds invited them down and showed them around several cities of the south.   They fell in love the friendly ness of the south and are here now visiting again.   Yes there are small minds here like everwhere else but it is not the norm.  If I was you I would move if it bothers you so bad, its not going change.  "Not wanting you to move BTW". Simply saying I would not live somewhere where I hated the culture.

Wonder where the 'south haters' would go to find their idea of utopia where no one argued with anyone, and there was no racism from whites, blacks, asians, arabs, well, you name it. Read a 'dear abby' like thing where a woman was whining because she was middle eastern and her boyfriend's family didn't like her. Boo hoo, they were racist!! Yep buttercup, and just what do YOUR parents think about you and the white boy?? Why don't you tell us that? Which family will do a 'chop chop" on the head of the one that displeases/shames them? The accepted jokes are, 'what will black mom and dad say/do when they meet the white person their child is involved with? Yuck  yuck yuck, funny stuff ain't it? Hilarious on the sitcoms. What will mom and dad in India do when they find out daughter in the US is dating a 'pasty white' boy? Yuck yuck yuck, the jokes are just so hilarious. Again, someone so bitter about being here, and with the obsession that everyone is just itching to gun them down, needs to, for the sake of their own sanity, if there's any left, move back to where they came from. Nothing bitter/mean/unknowing about that, just a suggestion for a remedy for their unhappiness at being here.

Good Grief! Why don't you go back & read all the post instead of taking Pups word that he was called a liar? My question to Pup was why he's still here if he hates it so bad. You can dig up every post he's ever made & 90% of it is negativity about the South & it's people.

I don't care if Pup agreed with me or not, & it doesn't ruin my day if he doesn't. All I wanted was an answer about all the negativity.

It amazes me & some others why anyone would leave a job making $1000 per 43 hour week in one place & go to another making $150.00 per 15 hour week. Not in this this day & time, with the economy being what it's been for the last few years. Doesn't make any sense but it's not any of my business, but some of us did find that little nidbit very unusual.

I'm not going to waste my time trying to explain anything to you because you wouldn't accept it if you did understand.

Since you have all these "fundamentalist religious" people around you & they scare you that bad, you & Pup need to get out of the South! Hasta la vista, Baby!!

Best blarged: "Wonder where the 'south haters' would go to find their idea of utopia where no one argued with anyone, and there was no racism from whites, blacks, asians, arabs, well, you name it."

-----------------

They would go to Ridgefield, Connecticut.  There are no known racists in Ridgefield, Connecticut.

Get out of the county once in a while and expand your worldview.

--------------------

Semi whined: "You should read all the post before you comment to something."

----------------------------------------

Yes, dearie. You should.

One of them awhile back answered your question of "Another you said you went from making $1000 per 43 hour week in Connecticut to making $150.00 per 15 hour week here in Alabama, doing the exact same thing you were doing for a living up there. Who in their right mind would do that, unless they had legal problems in the State they had to leave?"

--------------------------------

Brcause of the safety aspects of my job, one of the requirements of being a school bus driver is the "S" endorsement.  This involves extensive background and record checks.  It means that my vital information, fingerprints and legal history are on file from the FBI to sherriff  Roscoe's office, no matter where in the country I happen to be. It is updated regularly.  There's no running away from anything in any state under those circumstances. Rest assured, if I had ever been wanted for or convicted of a felony, I would not be able to do the job I do. Any school bus driver can tell you this.  I am one of the squeakiest cleanest, most straightest arrows in Florence, Alabama.  I have to be.

Learn some s#%t about what you're talking about before you speak.

I came down here to work on the pretense that I'd be working what in the bus industry is known as full time.  Unfortunately, the (former) manager lied to us about the job, the hours, the faulty equipment, and the pay rates.  We didn't find out until we were actually hired and working.  Turns out the boss, another fine, upstanding christian- had both hands in the cookie jar and was robbing the company blind at our terminal.  By this time we were too broke to go anywhere else and had to make a go of it here.

That "get to a better state" sign in front of Braly stadium taunts me daily....

Yes, dearie- You should read *ALL* the post before you comment to something.

We were talking about religion in the south, right? Where did the violence and racism come into this thread? That is a whole other topic...or is it? Are you saying that they are all tied together?

It doesn't bother me. It's just an observation. When someone says they are praying for me, I say "thank you". If they say have a blessed day, I say "you too".  Every single time I go to the grocery store there is a very sweet lady that works there and she always makes a point of "god blessing" me. I think she is very sweet and means nothing but good by her words. However, I spent a while in CA last year and not one person said "god bless you" or that they were praying for me. No one ask me where I went to church either. They were friendly and courteous, but they didn't use religion to get that across. It's not necessary, but it is the norm in the south. Which brings us right back to what RP agreed with Semi on. People in the south are uber religious.

I LOVE the south. I like the way we talk, the way we are friendly and invite strangers to eat supper with us. I love the food we cook. I love the beauty of our landscape, we have mountains and valleys, rivers and oceans. I love that my family is here and we have a long history in this area. I will leave eventually and I will miss my home I am sure.

I'll bet you were so happy when HF brought your favorite topic up in this thread. You must have been relieved that you didn't have to find some way of getting racism into the discussion. LOL

Best, Alabama ranks 47 out of 51 when it comes to federal revenue dependency. In other words, you live in one of the top gimmethat states in the nation. I know how you hate gimmethats so I think you should leave this state immediately!

I’m going to explain myself once more, in a way even a first grader could understand it. If you two, (Jank & Pup) still don’t get it, that’s your problem.

Pup made the statement about “shenanigans of the god-bots down here” & “people scream at others from street corners telling us we're all worthless, hellbound sinners and such crap”. I ask Pup where those people were, that I had never seen anyone do that. (I’ve seen them on street corners during First Friday handing out Religious pamphlets but I’ve never seen anyone screaming at others). When they want to give me a pamphlet, I simply say No, thank you & keep walking.

When Pup mentioned the “shenanigans of the god-bots down here”, it just reminded me of all the negative comments he’s constantly making about the South & it’s people, so I ask him why he lived here if he hates it/us so bad. Simple, straight to the point but you/Pup bring things into it that has nothing to do with my simply wanting to know why.

There was nothing wrong with Best saying it's worse outside the South, she may be right, but I didn’t back peddle anything. I was asking Pup about the South so what Best said had nothing to do with what I was asking Pup. I ask him if he hated southerners for one reason & that reason is because of the constant, negative remarks he makes about the South. He’s always done it, not just in this topic.

BTW, Pup. I have a cousin that has driven a bus in Colbert Country for 30 years & she said she's never had any “extensive background/record checks”. I also checked with two good friends of mine that are bus drivers & they laughed when I ask them. They made the remark “Honey, we don’t work for the FBI, we’re just bus drivers”. Makes sense to me.

Best whined thusly: "Again, someone so bitter about being here, and with the obsession that everyone is just itching to gun them down"

--------------------------------------

I don't think like you, Bestie.  I've said it before and I'll continue to prove it by living it.  I'm not the one who's afraid of everybody-I'm not the one who thinks they need to carry a gun just because the law says I can.

I AM amazed by the number of people who hide behind guns and who actually use them against each other when they run out of words.  Maybe if they knew some more words, they wouldn't be so quick to shoot each other? Hmmmm.....

Maybe if it wasn't as easy as getting a free gun when you buy a car (I forget whose ad that was, but it was for a car dealer in Muscle Shoals recently and my jaw hit the floor when I heard it), people wouldn't be so quick to shoot each other.

Never anywhere but in the self-righteous 'bible-thumpin' south have I met so many people who profess to be loving, peaceful christians in one breath and feel the need to make such a big deal about their being armed in the next.

I get the impression that they all go through their days carefully maneuvering around each other, giving each other the shifty-eye while their fingers twitch nervously over their holsters as the theme from 'The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly' plays over and over in their minds...

I still remember the thread where all you rootin' tootin' Yosemite Sam types were all calling *me* a *coward* because I have the sheer audacity to walk down the street *unarmed.*

Rock on, you cowboy wannabe frauds.

No, I'm not worried about anyone shooting me.  There's no reason for anybody to shoot me, so I'll just keep listening to and reading about you shooting yourselves down here in the land of 'hospitality' and rude politeness.

Wow.  I remember when this thread was about CNN calling atheists devils until semi and Best made it all about me..

Wait.....what? WHO'S obsessed, again?

LMMFAO!

I also checked with two good friends of mine that are bus drivers & they laughed when I ask them. They made the remark “Honey, we don’t work for the FBI, we’re just bus drivers”. Makes sense to me.

-------------------

Then either of three things is true:

Either they *don't* drive school buses and they *don't* have 'S' endorsements, which ALL school bus drivers across the country have had to have by federal law for many years now since the advent of the CDL because of the safety-sensitive nature of the job working with kids and all. You *cannot* be a type 1 or type 2 school bus driver in the U.S. without an 'S' endorsement on your CDL.

Or....

They were too dumb to realize that someone, either a DPS officer or duly authorized representative was taking their fingerprints and sending them to the ABI and FBI and that they were consenting to a criminal background check......which is hard even for me to believe.

Or....

You're lying.

Because for the last couple decades,  (since about 1989, thereabouts) every prospective school bus driver is required to get a P (passenger) and an S (safety) endorsement on their CDL.  Regular MVR (motor vehicle record) checks are done at intervals (just had mine done last friday, in fact) as well as criminal record checks at intervals for as long as a driver holds an S endorsement.

Because (and the CDL slogan is still hanging in the troopers' office in Muscle Shoals) "From now on- only the best will drive."

Best-I could hit you with facts all day long and nothing would sway your bitter, nasty view.

No RP, YOU made it about you.  I made ONE post. That post was short and to the point. I said things were worse outside the South. YOU, unable to pass up a chance to once more run down the area, had to come back at me. THEN YOU proceeded to make it all about you and whine and beg for a pity party. We've heard it a thousand times, we get it, the man with the 80s hair style and wife beater shirt doesn't like the South. Well then, for crying out loud, move!!

I rarely carry a gun. It is YOU that is always posting about how someone wants to shoot you or is chasing you and shooting at you. I have said that for me to use the gun someone would have to be threatening me or my family. I said I'd have to be very scared. I don't get scared that often. The people in this area don't frighten me. I love the area and the people born and raised here.

I don't carry my gun around with me, and I'm certainly not the one claiming they're all just itching to shoot me. You're the backward rube that thinks people carrying guns are only looking for a chance to kill somebody. I'm the one laughing at your outrageous 'stories', and un-natural fear of legal gun owners, not the one 'toting' a gun and daring someone to 'make my day'.

I'd be very surprised to see any post where I said you were a coward for not carrying a gun, and I don't think anyone else said it either. Granted, you like to 'talk big', Yosemite Sam, would be more your style, and I think if you, like most big talkers, were challenged by someone, and not someone with a gun either, you would back down real fast.  I do remember you blowing off about how you'd handle an irate mother, more of your big talk, and I DID jokingly ask you what if she had a gun in her purse? I asked that because all you talk about is how everyone has a gun and just can't wait to shoot someone. Talk about backwards thinking, you show that and more with your every post running down the area.

Best, I  bet you can't take a shower without you gun....

I see it in the Times Daily. I  see it on the local news channels- people shooting each other for the stupidest reasons, usually domestic disputes or neighbor disputes (and every once in awhile, a bible-quoting contest). I hear it on the scanner all the time.

I told you that irate mother would have a hard time aiming with her head stuck in an air door.

You just can't comprehend someone handling any kind of situation from soneplace other than from behind a gun.

You have a short memory.

Semi made the comment about "People in the South have brains that just can't comprehend someone not believing in/loving/worshipping God."

All I did was AGREE with her.

Then you took the first cut by saying that the problem was worse outside the south.

So I posted a counter-argument to you and then you both piled on me and have been at me ever since.

How many times by how many people do you need it explained?

You and semi have been whining at me throughout this entire thread and I have had to repeatedly remind you of stuff you and I have stated at the beginning of it because you were obviously too dense to absorb it the first time.

I Imagine that the rest of the forum members who bothered to drop in are either finding it quite tedious by now if not entertaining.

Maybe you and semi will get it this time.

I ain't holdin' ma breath. LOL!

There's no reason for anybody to shoot me, so I'll just keep listening to and reading about you shooting yourselves down here in the land of 'hospitality' and rude politeness

_______

It's amazing that you would want to live in the South. With every post you make, you show everyone just exactly how you feel about the South. Of course, we're all just a bunch of frauds, & you're the real thing.

Since you're not worried about anyone shooting at you, I bet you stood dead still, looking them straight in the eye when you were being chased by those two car loads of gang members shooting at you with machine guns.

Actually pup I've heard tell of several out on Lagrange Mountain who think they are driving busses. It's in Colbert county. They say that if one listens late at night and early mornings you can hear what sounds similar to a buss motor going brrrrrrrrrrrrrrt brrrrrrrrrrrrrrt squeek squeek. That could explain the cousin. lolImage result for laughing dog cartoons

And you're grasping at straws, dearie, and you know it.

If they hadn't already made their intent explicitly clear, I might've. Waterbury's chock full of them and I've interacted with a few in non-hostile situations, but normally I avoid the cars with the crown on the rear deck.

I'm pretty fearless. I'm *not* f#%&in' stupid.

You're *still* whining.  I thought you were through with this discussion yet you continue to whine at me.  Tch, tch. You're making a spectacle of yourself..

Yup.  Whether you like it or not, that 'freedom of speech' stuff goes both ways.

On a lighter note, y'oughtta hear how we talk about New York. The Vampire State.  I'd post it here but it'd just look like a wall 'o cuss words.

We're 'equal-opportunity offenders', ya know...
