Because he did not win a championship! Thats the most important thing to look at if your from good old Leighton. Im from there and I dont care if he truly cares for and loves the kids he coaches...I dont care he if is always there for the kids...I dont care if he has a better record through 5 years than the hero coaches of the past...You have to bring home the blue map, the bottom line....By the way, I played at Colbert County, won a championship and have the right to speak on this subject....And to the board who used the excuse of no cpr certificate: I hope this school never wins again, maybe a few 0-10 seasons will help the view of the good old booster club full of wanna-bes who could not hack the playing field--- only the lunchroom meetings in the air conditioner. Remember...who cares about the education and well being of these kids- where's the trophy!!!!!
Hmmmm, let me see. We have the #1 football program in the region, but the lowest average ACT scores, the lowest ACT participation percentage, and--according to on-line school reporting data--we lose half--that's right, HALF--our students between 7th and 12th grade?
Sounds a little like the wrong guy got axed, doesn't it?
Local High School Quality Scores (based on Bestschools.com ranking)- Muscle Shoals, Brooks, Red Bay, Hatton, and Lexington all scored 9's (meaning they scored in the top 10% nationwide); Deshler and Rogers scored 8's; Central, Belgreen, and Wilson scored 7's; Florence and Phil Campbell scored 6's; Sheffield, Lawrence County, Russellville, and Waterloo scored 5's; Colbert Heights and Cherokee scored 4's; Colbert County scored a 3.

On the other hand, their football team went undefeated in region play, won the region, made it to the quarterfinals in play-offs (losing to the #2 team in the state), leaving them in the state's 3A top ten. And they asked the COACH to resign?

wow those teachers at that cliquey Brooks school must be doing something right!
I also graduated from CCHS. I have to agree on the ratings. Colbert County has ALWAYS scored lower than the remainder of schools in our area. We have the worst funding in the area as far as the academic portion is concerned. We have always been looked down on by other members of the area bc we are CCHS. I would hate to discuss the true reason why our school is disliked so much.

I, however, graduated 7th in my class and went on to graduate from college with an accounting degree. Regardless of the rating of our high school-- ***I*** choose what to do with my life. I participated in the sports as well. I cant be mad at my parents for not paying the tution to one of the other schools mentioned, which I cant afford for my childern either. Neither can I be mad bc they did not drive 30 minutes to get us to another school. They made us adapt to our surroundings and learn from what we had. I have a brother and a sister. We all have jobs and are self supporting of ourselves. I am sure that the ratings were not much different in our time compared to the other schools. We just didnt let them put a cap on our potential.

I can say that while I was attending, football was the reason that our community could not forget us. Everyone knows the football tradition from CT Manley stadium. If that gives some of the children there a reason to wake up in the morning, let it. They may not have any other area to focus their attention or give 100% (sad as that might be). Several people do not care whether or not they graduate, or do well in academics, or even become a person of good character. I do not agree at all how things work there- but no one has changed in the past so I dont expect any thing different now. So quit knocking the children around. They may not have an other alternative.

As far as Coach Mask- he was there when I attended also. He was a coach. My main question is---did his firing from Bradshaw somehow have anything to do with what is going on now????

I do pray for those attending school at Colbert County. I pray that when they complete a job application- they are not ashamed of at least getting a high school education. I also pray that in this area-- that their interviewer will not turn them away simply for that school being the place that the Lord choose to put them.
I live away from the area, way away, actually in Panama and I don't mean Florida either. I know the Mask family and there is nothing wrong with Steve. He was a good kid in school, and having graduated from CCHS I can tell you that when I attended from 1967 to 1973, it was the best school to go to in NW ALA. OK, we did not have the educational facilities as did MSHC or Bradshaw but in education and sports we were in the top then. What did we have?...two things...great educators/teachers and a supportive community. We had teachers that were dedicated and administrative personnel and a PTA that were sincerely interested and supportive. During my time at high school we had two National Merit Scholarship winners, Phillip Potter and Macon Landers. Almost of third of my class were honor roll student. We were always champions in sports and there was no "giving" grades because you played. I could not play because of asthma and allergies but we had players that went on to pro-ball as well. I understand that since then it has gone down hill. I believe a lot of that was due to everyone moving out of the rural area pretty much. But I feel bless to have attended CCHS and blessed to have attended with such great students/people. I now own a multi-million dollar telecom company covering 4 countries in Latin America, and I basically did it based on my education at Leighton, not in college, where I dropped out early to work, and to the community and parental ethics and moral support given therein. A great deal of regard should be given to a coach because he has a job that covers many bases. It's a shame that parents today, expect the coach to play momma too much and don't support the man who is there every day. Anyone who does not agree with me can always write me to discuss "why-so" at and I would be honored to support CCHS and my friends.

It had nothing to do with Bradshaw. Billy Hudson has been trying to come up with a reason to relieve Coach Mask of his coaching duties for about two years. Mr. Hudson is jealous of him.

I am sitting here laughing my rear off here, wwwbowling. My brother and I went to MSHS, and he dated a coupld of CCHS Cheerleaders, and his main ring of friends were from CCHS, they were all so very close....
.......
....
UNTIL the MSHS and CCHS football game night!!! We knew CCHS was going to win, but in the back of our minds we 'hoped' they wouldnt.. I truthfully can say that I THINK that CCHS beat MSHS every single year that my brother and I were in school...

*goes off giggggling down memory lane*****

You misspelled academics....hehehe

OH MY.. attention world!!! I misspelled a word!!!! OH NO, Things are gonna end for sure now!!!! How horrible for me to do that.. *slaps face*..

And oh, by the way, if you are the spell checker on this forum, you sure have your work cut out for you... LOL!!!

Now your mission.... go read each and every post, each and every reply, and try (remember I said TRY) to publically humiliate everyone on here... maybe someday you can ask for tips.. LMBO!!!!!!
Anyone involved in Colbert County schools knows that if you do not agree with Billy Hudson or he does not like you, you have a death sentence in you job as soon as he can find the slightest reason. I personally know of at least three teachers at one school that have resigned because of the pressure they felt from Hudson regarding their position. This school has changed drastically since he became superintendent in Colbert County. If he wants something he gets it no matter what the cost to the school system.

I hope there is someone who runs aganist him in the next election and sends him packing from the superintendents office.
