Sounds like he wasn't doing his job as Athletic Director. It looks more like the issue is what he hasn't done (or hasn't been doing) rather than what he has done.

I used to practice with David Howard, and if he thinks he should not be terminated from all three positions, then I will defer to his judgment. It must not be that bad.

Mr. Hollis' mistake was that he's still living in the 1960's, when everyone cared about football. Today, most of the preppy students (the ones who have influential parents) play golf, tennis, soccer, cross-country, etc. He totally ignored these teams. As far as his fund-raising, the vast majority came from one family.

falcon, your correct about the funds. my understanding on this is that it is a paperwork issue. for the last several years a step in the paperwork was not done correctly and Hollis refuses to go back and correct it....not his job?
The interesting thing about the timing of this is the coach in Russellville and Deshler. I know that one of the money backers at FHS has been working to bring in another "winning" coach. I have been saying all along that Hollis was a gonner, funny thing is, the R'ville coach left his job last month!??

The rumor going around Tuscumbia for a while now is that mothershed was highly wanted by florence to be the next head coach. We've also heard that Robbins said he would match any offer from anyone to keep john at dhs. This is all rumor but something that just will not go away.

The paperwork issue is exactly correct. When she notified him that some part of the paperwork was not being done, then he started doing what she asked. But then she asked for the paperwork for the dates prior to his notification and he refused to create false documents just to fill the void. That would have been fraudulent. This was her personal vendetta to get him. I personally sent emails to all board members and a couple of the ones that canned him replyed to me stating they agreed with me to keep him. He didn't even know they had let him go, Behrends did'nt even call him to tell him. The Times Daily broke the news to him. She made it look like he didn't have any support. She deleted any and all emails sent to her regarding this. VOTE HER OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont think it should be any different for him. Just think of the problems this would have created if there was an accident on one of these trips without the proper paperwork in place. DETAILS PEOPLE......DETAILS!!!
By the way, I still believe the rumor I heard last year about a certaint family trying to "buy" a coach from the other side of the river, guess we'll wait for that to play out too. So far its all falling into place!

Joe Hollis hangs out with Dick Jordan, two losers who are good for each other. Say it ain't so, Joe.

The thing that amazed me was Mr. Hollis was being paid $74,000 to coach football, oversee the strength program and be the AD. Many coaches teach a full load of classes, oversee the strength program, mow the grass, arrange transportation, work on equipment, etc... and make nowhere near $74,000.

Mr. Joe Hollis is a nice guy. However, the Florence City School System is screwed up! I find it appalling that a school board would hire an AD/Coach for a high school before they ever hired a principal, and then, allow the AD/Coach to "float" in the system, without direct lines of authority to the Principal of the school. I don't know what expertise a former kindergarten teacher brings to the table on her knowledge of AHSAA rules/regulations, especially without an assistant superintendent who can clue her in. The whole scenario is a sad one for Mr. Hollis, the student-athletes, and the community. Place the blame where it belongs......the Board of Education!

That is BS, by the way. Speaking as one deeply involved in the program, there is no single family that has donated any sort of bribery funds.

Y'all stop being stupid. Hollis simply failed to do his job and exposed the school system to millions of dollars in legal liability simply because he couldn't seem to collect some paperwork.

He was warned and failed to heed the warnings. He was terminated for it. That's all there is to it.
