COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
Colbert County officials said autopsy results have positively identified the body they recovered as that of Leon Tidwell.

Tidwell was a 72-year-old man and was reported missing in the Riverton Rose Trail area in Colbert County.

Cadaver dogs and search crews searched for Tidwell at Hayes landing where witnesses say they last saw him.

Family members said he suffered from serious health issues including heart problems.

The Colbert County Sheriff said hunters found human remains in a wooded area off Riverton Rose Trail in October.

Forensic experts told authorities it would likely be at least six months before they were able to get a positive ID on the remains - however, their results came back in a little more than two months.

Colbert County Sheriff Frank Williamson said the results, although difficult, will provide closure for his family.

"They'll have closure; they can go ahead and do something with the remains and have closure to this whole case," said Williamson. "I know there are some questions that will be out there that we can't answer, but what we could answer, we answered."

The reports show no signs of foul play.
