I would just like to know who does the apprasials for Colbert County Property Taxes? They must be completely out of thier minds!! Our tax increased from last year, they have ours appraised at $19,000 for 2 1/2 acres. That doesn't include the dwelling. My father says his icreased aprox 40% and my father in law says his increased 50% and they have his wooded area with no road frontage appraised at $4,000 an acre. I am pretty sure they just have someone up there sitting in the office doing this. I highly doubt that they are sending appraisers out to each property to assess. I think we should all take a stand and get something done about this!

Alabama was touted as having the lowest property taxes in the nation. Bob Riley signed an executive order , not to be confused with something our state congress would do, for the purpose of raising our property taxes each and every year. I guess he thought low property taxes were a bad thing.
The woman who ran against him promised that if elected, the very first thing she would do is resend that executive order. If you voted for Riley, then you voted for these increased property taxes.
Until we get in as gov, somebody who thinks the citizens of Ala don't need to be in the same boat with the citizens of Mass, our taxes will continue to go up.
I believe that we should all band together and not let another goof ball in the next election. Where will it stop if we don't band together and voice our opinion at the court house? We should overflow their phones and then maybe they will learn something about the voters, we will not take it anymore. The number is 386-8530 ext.3. Give them a call. Mad Eeker

I called today and they are going to reasses mine and call me back on Monday, we will see if they do.
According to my latest AARP magazine, all states are raising taxes to bring in more revenue.
The highest average five:
NJ $6320
Conn $4603
NH $4501
NY $3622
RI $3534

The lowest average five:
Ark $534
Miss $468
West Vir $457
Alabama $383
La $188

So don't complain, we are next to the bottom, which this time is a good thing.
Don't complain! That is our AMERICIAN right to complain.

They already tell us we have to wear seatbelts in our own car, no smoking in public, and so on.

I think more people should be complaining, because if we don't, then we don't live in a free society anymore.

So I don't want anyone to say "DON'T COMPLAIN."

We, as a society, have not been complaining enough.
I did not complain - in another thread- about a raise in taxes. My complaint is that my property is evaluated for $10,000 more than last year. This occurs when home values are falling all over the US - and in Sheffield. Teyates pointed out the reasoning behind the false appraial in the other thread. I believe it is called 'Say What". If you did not read his post, you might want to!
