I can tell you this, I'm looking into Ehrman right now, and he most certainly knows the Bible, backwards, forwards and sideways.

And that ain't no joke.

Ehrman said that 2nd Samuel 7:14 is refering to Soloman. It's not, it prophecy of Jesus, that's from Sunday School 101. He may have a lot of verses memorized, but he doesn't really "know" the Bible.

When my parents were dragging me to CoC as a kid, there were a lot of people there who thought the preacher knew the Bible forwards and backwards. They didn't bother to look things up or question him because he said what they wanted to hear. When I got old enough to check the verses he gave and read them for myself, I started to see mistakes. That was the beginning of my mistrust of the church.

My point being is that just because Ehrman may be saying things you like, shouldn't give him a free pass from your skepticism. Stay inquisitive and question him just like you would question a preacher. If I can find mistakes in his arguments, then I know you can.

Nash, if I were you I'd listen to this interview. I would also suggest that everyone listen, read or watch Ehrman's media. He is without a doubt one of the top Biblical scholars. I think at first it would be easy to misunderstand him. (For instance he bases a lot of what he says in his own personal reading and research of the thousands of Greek manuscripts.) In other words, most people, unless you read Greek and have access to the original manuscripts, are learning from a transcription chock full of errors. Ehrman simply points these out.

He is agnostic and very friendly and open to questions and conversation.

By any standards I would consider Ehrman is a wealth of knowledge.

Regards
