I hope everyone read Russ Coreys lame article about Comonopoly raising rates as of Jan 1, 2007. Just in time for the Christmas bills! Not only was the article inacurate, the claims that it is not cost effective to allow another cable provider, it was an insult to intelligence when the only comparison was Comcast high end digital subscription rate compared to Huntsville. There are 3 cable providers in Huntsville. Comcast rate for the "premium" package(appx. 50 channels) is HALF of what is charged in the Shoals. If in nothing but protest: Get Direct TV, only $29.95 a month, all locals in H'ville and 15 more channels than Comcast.

If you're at all interested in knowing about how Comcast got to be such a giant, there's a book about it. It's disgusting how they are just above the law regarding regulations, etc. Their service is terrible and their Internet doesn't work half the time. When you complain, they somehow blame you for the lack of connectivity. If we had even one competitor in the area, things wouldn't be so terrible. I don't know why they charge so much because they're obviously not using our fees to pay for customer service.
Switching from Comcast to Direct TV was the best decision I ever made. Not only does Direct TV offer many more channels at comparable prices but all the claims that it goes out every time it rains is completely false.

I gave up on Comcast years ago when they repeatedly refused to carry the channels I wanted, like Bravo and Turner Classic Movies and I am so glad I did.
Comcast is the worse cable service I have ever had. The service stinks ( TV, DSL ) There really needs to be another cable service there. I had always hoped that maybe charter cable co. might consider opening up there. I have cable thru our Electric Company and it great!. We have also had direct tv and we loved it. I am trying to talk my parent's into getting direct tv. My Mother has Comcast DSL and it stinks. It is always something wrong with it. BellSouth Internet Service is the best, but, I don't believe ya'll have it yet. My Mother is waiting for it in Tuscumbia. Start a petition it just might work. I bet there would be a lot of signiture's. Especially if you place them everywhere.

I have had Dish Network for several years...never a problem with it, except the usual signal loss in the event of extremely heavy rain, bot Direct does that too.

Comcast totally STINKS!!! And that is the nicest I can say about them... But the small "FEW" of us that are talking about it will make no difference, it will take thousands of people joining in and telling them to take their cable and "roll it back up" cuz we neither want it nor NEED it.
At least there is some comfort in knowing Comcast hoovers across the board. We live in north MS and when I would call (daily) about outage for our 'net service I would get someone in Huntsville. It FINALLY got better, but there are still frequent problems. I do not watch too much TV, but haven't had too many problems when I do. There have been a few VOD issues that were really frustrating. Customer service wasn't able to help with that either. I could write the Twelve (infinite) Days of Comcast Horror if you would like...nothing like having your 'net going down regularly while you are trying to finish grad research. ARGH!

The rates hoover as well.
I lived in Scottsboro for 10 years. There was only one cable company there and they did exactly like Comcast is doing now. The city utility dept put in their own cable company along with cable internet. You got 100 channels for 30 bucks and internet was 30.00 also. Never had problems. Comcast wormed their way in and offered so called deals and made subscribers sign a contract for 2 years with the stipulation of going up on the cost when they wanted to. It didn't work. The utility company sitll has the best service and best rates. Comcast failed.

Why doesn't someone do that here? The people of the Shoals would love the chance to change.
i have comcast cable and have never order a movie or had one on my bill my service was cut off i payed my bill on cridit card and was told it did not go thru the next morining i had to pay again to day later all 3 payment with thru and i was told i order movie to keep my money i am gone on the weekend that is when the movie have order nobody in my house and the need the money pay your bill 3 times a month as they need all your money

hnauv.. almost the SAME thing happened to me nearly 2 years ago.. I had to by-pass THIS Florence office and go directly to the Huntsville office, in which THEY pulled up all the transactions, as well as the recorded messages.

Needless to say, I got Cable, and Internet for less than half price for 18 months, PLUS 3 free HBO's for a year!!!

Dont stop at Florence, they will just get you more and more confused, and then will NOT do anything for you.

I even had the phone number to a 'persons' desk in Florence, different than the one in the book, and she told me she was NOT allowed to talk to me... DUH!!! I PAY YOUR SALARY, lol...

Call the Huntsville Office, they will help.

I have no clue what you're trying to say other than Comcast screwed up a bill. The only thing I can say is save all your paper work.
Well I was hoping someone would grab at it, but it didn't seem to take, that the City of Florence had the chance to allow another provider in this area a few years ago and LET COMMUNISTCAST keep their MONOPOLY. And let me apologize to Russ Corey, somehow I got it in my head that he wrote it, seemed to just sound like some of his past articles I guess, LET'S NOT RIPPLE THE WATER OR RUFFLE ANY FEATHERS! I still say whoever wrote it at least should get one month's service free; it was truly slanted toward Comcast and LAME!
Oh and just ONE more jab I couldn't resist: since posters keep mentioning that Huntsville handles this area's customer service, Comcast actually had the GALL to open their customer service center in Huntsville when this area was desperate for jobs while continually raising rates in this area and AT THE SAME TIME Forrest Wright and SEDA were giving Walgreens 2 million dollars to open a call center with tax revenue THE CITIZENS of this area paid. TWISTED!
