You should see a https:/ in front of any address where you are making a transaction. That means the connection is encrypted.

What will screw you is a trojan keystroke virus. They record all your keystrokes which include account #s, passwords, etc. and are capable of e-mailing the info to a bad guy without your knowledge.

I see a lot of people who say they have antivirus and when you look at their computer they did have a trail version when they bought the computer 2 years ago.

Go to your downloads,... find the avg,... then install. What you downloaded was the install pkge. If you cant find your downloads, redownload the install and when the downloads show, double click the avg download and it should start actually downloading avg. Avast as NYT said is good too,....
Its safe. I have paid mine online for years and never had a stolen password or hacked account. Just be sure to AVG updated everyday and don't open weird emails. I use Firefox for my browser and it seems to be better protected from attacks. Always look for the https as Ron said, that means its a secure site with heavy encryption.

i'd suggest not using windows in the first place, but as far as win32 i would use--

AVGfree or avast.. make sure not to install the AVG toolbar or any of the fluff

then get spybot search and destroy and
MBAM - malware bytes anti-malware.

then get firefox-- install the adblock and noscript plugins.

now you're safe.

James, you forgot to add, get a router for even more protection. I have not had a spyware or virus hit since I did that.

if you're running a legal copy of windows.

i've been hearing a lot of talk about NOD32 is the best anti-virus, but i don't have a windows machine to test it with.
