I have a computer that has the following:

Internet Explorer Version 7.0

Windows XP Professional Version 5.1 Service Pack 3

Windows Media Player Version 11.0

I am trying to play a file that has an extension of .mpg. The file has audio and video content. When I double click the .mpg file icon, Windows Media Player attempts to play the file, then stops with the error message that the MPEG-2 audio decoder is missing. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

*shrug* I consider the source. MajorGeeks isn't gonna distribute a package riddled with spyware and trojans, so I consider it to be a safe source. Now, if it were from hackersrus.com/get-free-codecs-and-viagra/pwn3d, I might be a little more leery.

Most end users want what they know, which is IE for browsing, and WMP for media. I agree that VLC is awesome, but it's just another program that most people will never hear of, want, or use.
in a few years, everyone will have mplayer/VLC player-- because they will be buying *nix boxes.

microsoft operating systems are dead, might as well nudge people to convert their apps over to FOSS equivalents then having to completely retrain them the next time they get a new computer.

if all these tards buying OSX macs can use them after always having windows, people for sure can use VLC in their familiar environment.
