C'mon guys, he was without his teleprompter, and besides he was trying to connect with the common people in an effort to make those "bad ole rich people" look like they needed to be penalized for their bonuses they got for their employment.
Geesh, what a character. I will agree with him on one thing. They defintely need to get a short bus to carry him around on and scrap Air Force One.

I would not wish to be Obama during his visit to the UK. Gordon Brown, their PM, is well known for carrying grudges for years.
After that basket of CDs he received --CDs that won't work in the UK, expect the worst.
Obama's teleprompter will wink out at the last minute, a sign "Wrong Region," will come in the screen and Obama will have to wing it.

I have a handicapped brother who is 39 years old and I am EXTREMELY offended by this. My brother and many of his peers participate in Special Olympics every year and they work VERY hard to reach their goals.

He apparently is someone who does not rely on the proper advisers or do any research into proper protocol.

Rude and insensitive remarks by Obama, no doubt. This could be a positive for the Special Olympics and special needs individuals. Obama will probably have the Special Olympics individuals to the white house. This unfortunate comment will get the word out and help this cause.

Actually, they said he called and apologized before Air Force One left the ground. He had apologized to the Special Olypics right after the taping, before it was aired. Immidiately after it was aired, the White House released the 'official' statement of apology, but Obama never came out and apologized.
I agree, it was off hand and inappropriate. The comment was not meant to hurt anyone and was not meant to put down the special olympics purposely (although thats what he did). You have to consider the intent of the comment, and I dont think he was hurtful in his intent (even though I am NOT an Obama fan.) But, I fully agree with the fact that he is supposed to SET the standard, and in his position he CANNOT allow himself to make 'human errors' like this.

I think that this transcends party issues and petty comments. There is never an excuse for crass behavior. Off the cuff comments tend to tell me a lot about a person when they aren't feeling quite so guarded.
I see lots of "just overlook it...it was a joke" comments. In the aggregate it may only be a joke to many Americans. That says even more about us, our level of compassion for those around us and our character. All in all it was a pretty mild joke. I bet half the people on here saying they are so offended go see movies like "There's Something About Mary" or tell Helen Keller jokes. You only think it's mean-spirited because Obama said it. If Larry the Cable Guy said it you'd laugh yourself silly.

Why is it that when Obama does wrong, all a Obamanite has to do is bring up someone like GW or some other GOP and they think that Obama still walks on water? If Obama is as good as the Obamanites think, why doesn't he just Heal the sick and convert us all. Is there anyone of any intelligence advising our president on what "hot words" to avoid? Let's face it, we all joke about different issues. Yes, all of us! Shouldn't we be using our energy to tackle issues we can actually improve?
