I think, in a discussion not too long ago, I asked the question 'who enforces the law if we are required to keep our guns locked in a safe in our home?'  Well, here is your answer.  'Mistake' my foot - it was a mistake it was caught before the bill became a law.....

WA DEMS SPONSOR BILL ALLOWING POLICE TO SEARCH GUNOWNERS' HOMES

In a mistake that probably wasn’t a mistake, a Washington state bill sponsored by liberal Democrats contained a little-noticed provision that would have called for the police to have the right to search private citizens’ home once per year if they own certain types of guns. According to Senate Bill 5737:

In order to continue to possess an assault weapon that was legally possessed on the effective date of this section, the person possessing shall ... safely and securely store the assault weapon. The sheriff of the county may, no more than once per year, conduct an inspection to ensure compliance with this subsection.

In other words, kiss the Fourth Amendment goodbye. Liberal lawmakers behind the bill claim they have no knowledge of the provision – which, of course, begs the question as to how the provision got into the bill in the first place. “I have to admit it shouldn’t be in there,” said Sen. Ed Murray (D-Seattle). “I made a mistake,” said Sen. Adam Kline (D-Seattle). “I frankly should have vetted this more closely.”

This was likely no mistake. It’s hard to believe that a bill could advance this far without anyone reading it for such an obvious violation of Constitutional principles. But in an age of ever-bigger government and ever-smaller rights, anything is possible.

In case you question that source:

“They always say, we’ll never go house to house to take your guns away. But then you see this, and you have to wonder.”

That’s no gun-rights absolutist talking, but Lance Palmer, a Seattle trial lawyer and self-described liberal.....

“I’m a liberal Democrat — I’ve voted for only one Republican in my life,” Palmer told me. “But now I understand why my right-wing opponents worry about having to fight a government takeover.”

Thanks, James T. I couldn't quite believe it when I read your post yesterday. When I tried to check, the only sites I could find it on were blogs. But it was indeed in the Seattle Times and it is indeed true that this was contained in the bill. Thank God it is being removed, but if no one had noticed, it may have passed.

I hope you know that, just as it is a tiny percentage of conservatives who believe crazy stuff like "Obama was born in Kenya", it is a tiny percentage of liberals who believe crazy stuff like, "We should take away everyone's guns". We all need to be vigilant on all topics, and hold our legislator's feet to the fire. We pay them to do their jobs. It's about time they DID them. These clowns admitted they didn't even read an EIGHT PAGE bill.

They should be fired.

Yes, I agree that it is a small percentage of the left that believe that all guns should be banned.  Unfortunately, if we are not all very careful, things like this will be slipped in.  And it is SCARY how many of these type things slip through in bills that we arent aware of until after they are enacted (because people dont read them).  It worries me that someone specifically wrote that part of the 8 page bill, but no one will own up to it.  Someone actually believed that gun ownership (specifically assault rifles here) meant that we should give up our right to privacy in our own homes.  Those are the type people that would have moved on to other guns once this was enacted.

But I also think that the 'small percentage' is larger than most believe.  Yes, its a minority for sure, but I think there are many more on the left that believe that the world would be a better place without guns and the 2nd amendment.  They just accept the fact that its not realistic, at least right now.  Look at NY - Washington DC - Illinois.  Not a small percentage by far but they have all pushed the envelope on gun control.  DC and Illinois have infringed on the 2nd amendment for YEARS. And, once these things are passed, it takes YEARS to get the damage undone (30 years in DC, 50 years in Illinois).

The only GOOD thing that might have happened if that bill had passed would be that people could take it to court (the ACLU probably would have done it if no one else did) and have it declared unconstitutional. Because it indeed WOULD be unconstitutional. And that would have brought it to more people's attention. I find it disturbing that other than some blog sites, it was very hard to find this in the media. It should have been national news.

It took me a bit to find it outside of the right wing blogs as well.  It doesnt surprise me, though.  It just demonstrates to me how biased most of the media is.  I'm very surprised Fox hasnt run with it though.....
