A policeman who was shot and killed while chasing a 17-year-old through the streets of Greenville, South Carolina, may have fallen victim to his own department’s politically correct policy that requires officers to keep their guns holstered, except in the most dire of circumstances.

According to the Greenville Police Department’s force policy, an officer is prohibited from using lethal force against those “believed to be unarmed or are not presenting an imminent threat to human life or serious bodily harm unless immediately apprehended — whether or not they are fleeing from police.”

The policy was made public in a story about the killing of Allen Jacobs, 28, a four-year veteran of the Greenville Police Department, published in the Greenville News.

On March 18, Jacobs and his partner stopped a suspect known to the officer as a self-identified gang member, Deontea Mackey, to question him about a weapon he was alleged to have been trying to acquire. Mackey, 17, turned and ran with Jacobs in pursuit on foot.

The teen reportedly shot and killed Jacobs during the chase.

Police said Mackey then turned the gun on himself, committing suicide.

Greenville Police Chief Ken Miller said shortly after the shooting that Jacobs never even fired at Mackey – that Jacobs’ gun was still holstered when emergency responders found him and took him to the hospital, where he later died of multiple gunshot wounds, the newspaper reported.

Ofc. Allen Lee Jacobs

Jacobs, the son of two Bob Jones University professors, leaves two sons, ages 5 and 6, and a pregnant wife, Meghan. They were expecting a daughter in July.

Deontea Perry Mackey, the murdering thug POS. Some lives don't matter to animals like these...

Why should his life matter..???

Jack--the cop was not "ordered to holster his gun," as anyone reading the account should be able to tell.  You are up to your standard misdirection and oversimplification. From the article:

"According to the Greenville Police Department’s force policy, an officer is prohibited from using lethal force against those “believed to be unarmed or are not presenting an imminent threat to human life or serious bodily harm unless immediately apprehended — whether or not they are fleeing from police.”

So you want people to believe your thug murdering friend was
unarmed and wasn't a danger to the public or police officers.
And you also believe American law officers haven't been
compromised in carrying out duties and protecting their own
lives.
Why don't you go catch a ball game do a wave with some black
panthers and rag heads.

Jack, are you in favor of killing anyone who runs from the police?

Where does having a pistol at the ready equate to shooting someone in the back, or even firing at all?  Whereas, requiring the weapon be holstered can make the difference between life and death for the officer.

What fraction of one percent of panic shootings by police have
taken the common sense factor away from LEO's. At the same
time produced white hating groups backed by liberals to kill
and roam as they please. Thugs of color, whether african,
mexican or Husseinies, obumer has given them the right
to do whatever and kill as you go.

And people wonder why police are disrespected. I am not a black lives matter person, I am an "all lives matter". I'm in favor of obeying all legal orders given by police. I am in favor of the police giving legal orders only.                                     When I was a teenager, I had a lot of traffic violations, I never had a problem or confrontation with any police that gave me a ticket. There is no need for verbal or physical confrontations.

Where did that come from?

What did the police say/do on this thread that caused disrespect?

Demoslops are just cop haters. They want to do what they want to do, and not have to answer to the law for anything. I guess he figured the cop should have died instantly instead of making it to the hospital.

Bud and Best, When I asked Jack if anyone who runs from a cop deserves to be shot. He answered yes. That is where the top statement came from. Best, you should remember, you already posted that when you posted another of your favorite pictures.

So? I posted it again. What makes you call it "my favorite picture"? You don't like hearing and seeing how you demmies support thugs, do you? Answer Bud's question, where did your statement come from besides the left's insane hatred of cops and authority? Oh, and what do I get for free as a business? We had to go sign tax papers and my accountant had no idea what we get for free. So if you could tell us, I could tell him what we're supposed to be getting. As it is now, we are only paying instead of getting!

Your answer jt, still isn't clear. I'll finish will if there's a choice
of which one goes home that night, I just picked the officer
over the thug.

Jt is never clear. He told me that as a business owner, I got free things that others didn't get. When pressed he said schools, roads, and security systems. I think that was most of it. Never mind that our taxes, which we pay, pays for all that. Now jt most likely is old enough that he doesn't have to pay taxes on his home any more, and gets every tax break out there.  Yet we not only pay on our home, but on our business and all sorts of other things as well. Jt just seems to post without thinking it through. He's like the little kid that tells whoppers and expects the grown-ups to believe him. That may be a little cute in a five year old, and hopefully they out grow it, but in an older man it's just ugly, but it is typical of a gimmethat demmie.

That was Jacks answer to your question.

That is not the opinion of the police.

See the difference?

So again, why the disrespect?

So? I posted it again. What makes you call it "my favorite picture"?  Answer Bud's question, where did your statement come from , and what do I get for free as a business?

I asked Jack if a cop should shoot anyone that runs. He answered yes.  Best, can you read that sentence? That is where the statement came from. This is, i think, the third time I have posted it for you. Any chance you'll get it this time? As for the picture, you are the one who keeps posting pictures of black thugs, I just figured they were your favorite. Finally, your business uses police security, public transportation, public schools educated you and your employees. BTW, I'm 68 and still pay property tax on my home and on property I own in Alabama.

There are limited situations the police may shoot someone fleeing.  If the person is known to be armed and a danger, such as just used the firearm to rob or shoot someone.

And

Law enforcement officers pursuing an unarmed suspect may use deadly force to prevent escape only if the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or others.

Dire and Bud, I agree with both of you. If the cop is in fear of his life, shoot. Everyone who runs is not a threat to harm.

Pay close attention to Tennessee v Garner.

It's not all about the cop.

The individual LEO may be out of imminent danger but others, including the public, may not.  Armed / unarmed are only elements of the decision process in the totality of the circumstances.

BTW, most deadly force encounters are over in less than 3 seconds.

Average human reaction time to an unforeseen event is 3/4 second.

Think fast.  Time's a-wastin'.

I'll "get it" when you answer Bud's question instead of ducking and weaving.  Now, as to my question about the ignorant claim that as a business I get things for free-Any chance you'll "get it" when I tell you for the umpteenth time that we don't get those things for free? Pay close attention jt, you posted that as a business I got those things free, yet our business pays taxes. What do they use those taxes for jt? We pay taxes on our home. So instead of getting something for free as a business, we pay twice. So what happens to people that don't own businesses jt? They don't get police security, public transportation, which we don't get, or the use of public schools? I don't believe for one second that you pay taxes on your home. Not for one second!

I'll "get it" when you answer Bud's question instead of ducking and weaving.  - Best.

I liked JT's response to LEO's returning fire.  Who wouldn't?  But I found it in conflict with the "disrespect" comment.  Who didn't?

I think JT could best answer my question if he first understood what his question was.

Law enforcement is not all black and white as some activists would have us to believe, it's understandable that there are those, like JT, who want to comply with a lawful order not others they deem unlawful, are in a bit of a quandary when they don't fully understand the law as applied.

I believe JT would answer if he accepted / understood the information provided.  Takes time to digest it.

Choke holds, anyone?
