Here's the Short Version:
Brown, 69, of Jacksonville, Florida, and her chief of staff, Elias “Ronnie” Simmons, 50, of Laurel, Maryland, were charged today in a 24-count indictment with participating in a conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, multiple counts of mail and wire fraud, concealing material facts on required financial disclosure forms, theft of government property, obstruction of the due administration of the internal revenue laws, and filing false tax returns.
As, the indictment stands, the two are accused of using Corrine Browns Position as. Democratic congresswoman to draw credibility to the scheme. Their involvement in the scheme, served as a personal “Slush Fund” defrauding others from their donated money. The Scheme solicited over $800,000 in donations for a fraudulent education charity fund, prosecutors said, the organization gave out 2 scholarships, totaling $1200. The rest, was used as a personal slush fund.
They say the slush fund money was used for vacations, events in Brown’s honor and luxury boxes at a Beyoncé concert and an NFL game.
The Florida democrat congresswoman faces over 300 years in prison and millions of dollars in fines if she's convicted of fraud charges.
***Brown has plead Not Guilty. The trial was set for Sept. 6, a week after her re-election primary.
