On rare occasion, someone understands a song and does it better than the author.

Jimi Hendrix did "All Along The Watchtower" better than Dylan.

Shall we mention "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window"? We all know Joe C0cker owns that song.

Derek and the Dominoes did "Little Wing" better than Hendrix. No small feat.

And Al Green did "Take me to the river" better than the Talking Heads.

A cover i enjoy as much as the original is Jose Feliciano's version of "Light My Fire."
And his cover of "California Dreaming" is better than the original.

One that fell totally flat was Faith hill doing "Piece of My Heart."

I love Hendrix....and, IMO, Dylan can write much, much better than he can sing.

Good topic Deep. I agree with your sentiment, but even if I don't like the cover better, I still like to hear someone elses interpretation of the song.

Some of my favorites are Dope's version of You Spin Me Around, Disturbed's Shout, Dwight Yoakam's Suspicious Minds, and basically anything by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (a cover band). And there are countless others I like.

Heart's cover of "Tell It Like It Is". Not necessarily better than Aaron Neville, just different. Love Ann Wilson's voice and most of Heart's music before they went soft in the late '80's.

And Puf, "California Dreaming" is the very first song on my Ipod! LOVE that song & that entire era of music. I was born too late!

And Nash, I had an argument just this very night at the golf club about SRV's version of "Little Wing" vs. Derek and the Dominos'.

I still like Derek et al's, but SVR's is awesome, too.
