David Letterman Slammed For Sex Jokes About Palin's Teen Daughter

David Letterman is under fire for crude jokes about Palin's teenage daughter.

David Letterman is in the hot seat for several crude jokes he made on CBS' "The Late Show" about Sarah Palin and her teenage daughter.

Letterman, in his monologue Monday night, noted that the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate attended a Yankees game during a trip to New York City, where she was honored by a special needs group. Letterman referred to Palin, Alaska's governor, as having the style of a "****ty flight attendant."

The "Late Show" host also took a shot Palin's daughter, while poking fun at the Yankees' third baseman.

“One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game," Letterman said, "during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez.”

The backlash was almost immediate, with Palin's supporters denouncing the CBS host for making jokes that many said were sexist and for what they called an unfair attack on the governor and her family.

“I think that calling the former vice presidential candidate a **** or saying that her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez, I think everyone can agree that’s over the line,” Washington Examiner correspondent Byron York told FOX News’ Greta Von Susteren.

But an even more disturbing fact, which Letterman may not have known, was that the daughter who accompanied Palin on her trip to New York was 14-year-old Willow — not 18-year-old Bristol, the unwed mother of Palin's first grandchild.

Now, many critics — including the Palins themselves – are slamming Letterman for jokes that they say make light of sexual abuse of an underage girl.

In a statement to FOXNews.com, Palin accused Letterman of making "sexually perverted" and “inappropriate" comments that she doubted he would “ever dare make” about anyone else’s daughter.

"Acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone's daughter, contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others," she said.

Palin's husband, Todd, echoed her sentiments, telling FOXNews.com, "Any ‘jokes’ about raping my 14-year-old are despicable. Alaskans know it, and I believe the rest of the world knows it, too."

A representative for “The Late Show” declined to offer comment for this story.

David Letterman has gone too far this time, let's put him out of business once and for all. America need to stand up and silence the crude jokes.

Please call all of his sponsors and they are: Aveeno, Canon, Charmin, Citibank, Downy, Hellman's, Lexus, Nissan, Rogaine. Johnson and Johnson, Proctor and Gamble, Toyota and yes David uses Rogaine can't you see its working.

It's amazing the attacks this family has suffered all of America should be ashamed, when children of political figures are attacked.

A 62 year old man saying things like that about a 14 year old should be put in jail. Of course as long as the 14 year old is the daughter of a Conservative politician it is okay.
For all those people complaining about O'Reilly's apology to CNN, Little-man really shows some class. Roll Eyes

Late-night talk-show host David Letterman stopped short of apologizing Thursday for "jokes" he made the night before about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, including one that referred to her daughter being "knocked up" by New York Yankees baseball star Alex Rodriguez.

"We were, as we often do, making jokes about people in the news and we made some jokes about Sarah Palin and her daughter, the 18-year-old girl, who is — her name is Bristol, that’s right, and so, then, now they’re upset with me," Letterman said. "These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter. I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl. I mean, look at my record. It has never happened. I don’t think it’s funny. I would never think it was funny. I wouldn’t put it in a joke…"

"… Gov. Palin, if you’re watching, I would like you to consider coming to New York City — even Todd — as my guests, or leave Todd at home. I’d love to have you on the show. It’d be exciting. All right, so there, I hope I’ve cleared part of this up. Am I guilty of poor taste? Yes. Did I suggest that it was okay for her 14-year-old daughter to be having promiscuous sex? No."

Todd Palin should accept David Letterman's invitation and go on his show and as he starts to shake his hand, beat the living crap out of David Letterman for about two minutes. America he deserves every punch. Call Letterman's sponsors now or atleast email them!

My alarm goes off at 4:30 in the morning, but I'd stay up to watch that one. Heck, I'd even tivo it so I could enjoy it over and over again.
What in the world happened to David Letterman? I remember when he was just a big goofy doofus. Not a political bone in his skinny body. When I was in college, he was the stuff. We thought his daytime show was the best thing on TV and we always got together between classes to watch it.

Somewhere along in time (I think when Leno got the Tonight Show and he moved to CBS), he got to taking himself way too seriously and decided, like a lot of the show biz crowd, that because he spouts words that other people write, he is now a walking authority on every serious subject: politics, religion, foreign policy, AIDS...etc. Now he's morphed into just a run of the mill moron. Too bad.

I knew him when...

I don't remember this kind of outcry when he joked about Lindsey Lohan or other minors. I just don't buy it that you all are upset about his jokes. I think you are just upset that he made them about your heroine's daughter.

Don't be a jacka**. Lohan got the ridicule, when she was legally an adult if I'm not mistaken. She is around 23yrs old now. Besides, Lohan is in the news and in the public eye of her own accord, NOT because her mother has a public persona. Quite the opposite seems to be true.

Letterboy is a jerk, always has been.

Cry me a river. Bristol Palin, 18 YEARS OLD AND A LEGAL ADULT, made herself a public figure when she started talking about abstinence in a public forum.

"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno." ~ John McCain

You know what? That was funny, too. I didn't hear very much whining about that. Double standards.

Do you have a daughter and if so, what's her name?

No, but that has nothing to do with what we're talking about. If I did have and ADULT daughter who DECIDED to enter the world of being a public figure, I wouldn't expect her to get a special pass and I would know that she would expect things like this to happen. I've heard Sarah Palin even say that she told her whole family to expect things like that. If you can't handle it, don't enter into a public forum. If you do, then expect jokes from a late night talk show host. It is that simple. Grow up, people.

While I do think this situation has been ridiculously overblown...

You could take the time to read a news article about this before commenting.

The issue is that the daughter with Governor Palin at the Yankee game in question where "her daughter got knocked up" was not Bristol, but Willow Palin, age 14.

You could take the time to hear Letterman's response. He said that the joke was about Bristol and she did get knocked up. How did anyone not get that joke?

Being a comedian, even a bad one, is not permission to say ANYTHING!

If some one joked that Michele was knocked up, an adult, there would be an outpouring of calls for blood.

Or maybe one of John Edward's little cuties being sold for sex slaves.

Not everything is FUNNY!

Well you just said/posted it. And no it wasn't funny. Should I start the calls for blood? How did John Edwards children get drug into this? Wow I guess that kind of comment is only REALLY bad if spoken against a Republican. Thanks for clearing that up.

I think the whole thing is just ridicules. As long as I can remember Late Night talk show host have picked at and made fun of politicians. I really believe he was refering to Bristol when he said that. Seeing how she has put her self out in the public with her telling teen girls everywhere that her child is such a burden and what a terrible thing it has been being a mother at this age.

Politicians, yes. Fair game, but not their children. I hope everyone respects that even Obama's kids are off-limits to snarky comments.

Many people do not believe as you do. You may be right.

That seems like a pretty brave thing to do. Maybe the message will get through to some young girls.
