On the way to my Doctor's appointment, in Birmingham, we passed through Athens and decided to stop at IHOP and have breakfast.  It didn't take too long or maybe given the nature of my statement it did take too long, to experience deja vu to the past Florence IHOP venture.  There was one waitress and, from what I saw, one young manager running the store.  Given that the young manager wasn't seen until long after we got our breakfast we thought maybe he was the one doing the cooking as well.

Anyway, it took some 25 to 30 minutes just to get the Pancakes we ordered and they were but a shade of what we remember IHOP Pancakes tasting like.  The wife and I both were in agreement that Cracker Barrel had the better Pancakes and although IHOP does offer different flavors of syrup (Butter Pecan, Blueberry, Strawberry and Maple) Cracker Barrel has the better tasting product and you get it far faster at Cracker Barrel than you do at IHOP (or at last that IHOP).  In addition to the looooooong delay in getting served I also have to say that their prices are much greater than what they should be.  As for value and speed of service, neither Cracker Barrel nor IHOP can approach the Waffle House.

I remember the Florence IHOP, beside Applebees (located there I suppose because IHOP is owned by the same company as Applebees) and how long it took to get waited on and I have no doubts that those long delays were greatly responsible for the Florence IHOP failure.  All of that goes back on management and given the quick failure of the Florence IHOP I doubt they ever will consider another location here but given the experience we had, in Athens, I'm wondering how much longer it will last.   Most likely it will be around a while because Athens is located near the I65 interstate and even more has many large motels as neighbors so have a built-in supply of patrons.  It's a good thing those motels provide those temporary patrons because if the Athen's IHOP had to rely upon Athen's citizens for its business I believe they would see the same fate at that of the Florence IHOP.

Maybe it's a good idea to go with burgers after all---

I assure you, based upon that breakfast experience we'd have been far better off with having driven just a few hundred feet, or so, more and chosen the Krystal instead.

Actually, Krystal is one breakfast that I've never had even though they have been serving it for soooo long.  My "go to" breakfast place when I chose to eat breakfast out, is either Bojangles, for short order, or Waffle House if I want something more involved.
