It has been stated that the New York Times have asked the Democratic Party to "fight harder". Seems they are taking that advice. Wink

Stay tuned for "denial" replies. Big Grin

WASHINGTON - In a fresh sign of turmoil among defeated Democrats, a growing number of the rank and file say they won't support House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a politically symbolic roll call when the new Congress meets in January.

"The reality is that she is politically toxic," said Illinois Rep. Mike Quigley, one of several Democrats who are trying to pressure Pelosi to step aside as her party's leader in the wake of historic election losses to Republicans last week.
Pelosi startled many Democrats with a quick postelection announcement that she would run for minority leader. She has yet to draw an opponent for the post.
Party elections are scheduled for next week, although a postponement is possible.
In the interim, Pelosi's critics have become more vocal in their efforts to retire her from the party leadership.
There's "starting to be a sense that this may not be as much of a done deal as people might have thought," Rep. Jason Altmire said of Pelosi's quest to remain the top Democrat.
"If enough people come out and voice a little discomfort with the idea of her continuing on, maybe she would reconsider," said the Pennsylvanian, one of a handful of Democrats who said he won't cast a ceremonial vote for her.

Here is the WHOLE story. Cage left out the parts that said the ones who want her out are in the minority. He also left out the part about how it was CONSERVATIVE Democrats who lost their seats, which means it is mostly liberal Dems left.

And you know what? Here is another story on this subject that has NO MENTION of the fabled "letter" that Fox news made up.

And yes, the NY Times editorial DID say that they thought the Dems should have fought harder. One example is the way Obama has never come out demanding that people retract their accusations that he is a Muslim. He could have done so, but then he would be insulting all Muslim Americans, including those in the armed forces who are fighting for ALL of us.
More of Cage's lies and misinformation and ommission in posts. All will notice he has now started a campaign with his stupid little disclaimer on every post I write. I could get as childish as Cage, if you know me you know I can get 5th grade real quick when needed, BUT Cage and crowd really are only happy when they can spew their Fox spin and read each others post agreeing with them. A few get a pass, particularly if they aren't too truthful and harsh in their criticism. O No! you are doing a great service, but remember the minds you are dealing with and don't kid yourself into thinking these rattlesnakes don't bite. They are only your friend when they don't consider you a threat to their propoganda.
Rocky, I guess I don't let things bother me as much as you do. I realize that none of us are going to change anyone's minds. I LIKE Cage. I think he's intelligent and has a great sense of humor. And B50m is a true friend. I think the world of her.

The only time I get upset is when people start getting nasty with each other. I have called you out when you got a bit rough, and guys like mad.what-shis-name, WH, or whoever have NO CALL to post some of the insulting things they do.

We are all Americans, we are all human beings, and I am 100% sure that a lot of the problems in this country are caused by the lack of civility that is so prevalent lately.

I bet if either of us ever met Cage or B in person we would like them a lot. Politics is only one small part of my life, as I'm sure it is of theirs. In the end, none of it matters. They in Washington are going to do whatever it is they are going to do, and what we here on this forum discuss means nothing to them. I'm here because I find it interesting. But at the end of the day, there are so many other things (like friendships, for one) that matter so much more.

Oh, and by the way Rocky, I like you too. Smiler

The more telling thing - and the best measure of both the loyalty and fear that House Democrats feel where Pelosi is concerned - is that no one has stepped up to challenge her in the leadership elections set for Wednesday. Unlike the roll-call vote for speaker in January, that selection of party leaders is through a secret ballot.

Two Democratic lawmakers, Marcy Kaptur (Ohio) and Peter DeFazio (Ore.), are circulating a letter arguing that the vote should be delayed until December.
"We cannot ignore the historical results of these elections," Kaptur and DeFazio wrote. ". . . We should not rush to elect a leadership slate next week, but rather spend more time to understand these historic losses. Before we chart a new path forward we need to understand where we erred to avoid repeating past mistakes."

Kaptur and DeFazio are seeking other signatures for their letter; as of Friday morning, six other lawmakers had joined them.

Pelosi, meanwhile, is not taking anything for granted.
She may have competition however.

N.C. Rep. Shuler may challenge Pelosi for minority leader

By Barbara Barrett
McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — Will U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler of North Carolina take on Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi in a showdown for the role of top Democrat next year?

Shuler, of Waynesville, said in a debate in October - when he was defending his seat in his conservative mountain district - that he would not support Pelosi's re-election to her leadership post. He said then he would run himself before supporting her.

He echoed those remarks to The Associated Press, saying he thought that there were other contenders but that he would run if there were no "viable alternative."

Pelosi announced that despite losing control of the House, she'll run to be House minority leader for next term. No one else has announced a candidacy.

Shuler repeated his pledge Thursday to Roll Call, a Capitol Hill newspaper. National outlets are predicting a candidacy.

Shuler certainly offers an alternative. He is a conservative Democrat who supports gun ownership and opposes abortion rights. He voted against the health care overhaul and the stimulus bill. He is the whip for the Blue Dog caucus of conservative Democrats.

Shuler could find support in a fellow Blue Dog, Rep. Mike McIntyre of Lumberton. McIntyre said in a statement last week that he wouldn't support Pelosi, saying the party needs a moderate to conservative leader. "It is time to move forward in a different direction," he said.
