This is a microcosm of our whole political environment. We, obviously, still have politicians who think that the whole economic mess we find ourselves in is someone else's problem. There is NO good reason, at the present, for ANYONE in the public sector to be getting a raise for anything. Judging by this action, I would suggest that the Commission is either not up on their current events, hiding their heads in some sort of "sand", or, most likely, not showing a judicious use of tax-payer money. The ballot box can remedy that...

You know, I just appreciate the fact that the commission appreciated the workers of this county enough to give them their raises. It isn't going to "Break" the county nor is it a "misuse" of YOUR precious tax dollars to pay the men and women who get up every morning and WORK FOR YOU! Would you get up and ride on the back of a garbage truck and pick up someone elses trash? or arrest (put your life in danger) the criminals that break the law or take care of them while they are in jail (eating up YOUR TAX DOLLARS getting free food, medical care and cable t.v.) Trust me the (average 3.4%) is not much, on average about $50.00 a month (before TAXES)! County workers are TAX PAYERS TOO! I would just like to take this time to THANK the county commission for giving the hard workers of this county the raise. It may not be as much as they'd hoped for but it is certainly more than WE expected.

Would you rather your tax dollars go to the men and women who get up every morning, go to a job and earn it or the people who lay up in bed, draw a check (they don't earn) buy beer and smokes, make babies (we have to pay for) and never even attempt to find a job? And this comment is not intended to offend anyone who has fallen on hard times lately and receiving assistance. I fully believe if you have worked hard and fall on hard times you deserve it. That is how it was meant to be used.

Lots of people deserve raises, including county workers. My point was, they get the raise and my property tax goes up when home values are going down.

And I do appreciate anyone working for the public, but no one is forced to ride on the back of a garbage truck and be a policeman. They know the job duties before they take the offer.
And if your property taxes went up I am sure mine and alot of other peoples did also, but I think the FEDERAL government might be more to blame for the property value decrease rather than local. And I never said anyone was forced to ride the trucks or be a police officer. Whether you work at McDonald's, Walmart, County Government or whereever, if you are a faithful employee who comes to work, does your job to the best of your ability then you deserve that yearly incentive to continue being a good employee. Better work and contribute than to lay up and think your are 'ENTITLED" to assistance just because McDonalds don't pay enough.
