That is not the issue, the issue is where can an individual best serve, and I firmly believe that Dr. Black would do an excellent job with the alternative school- heck- at the same pay level, not having to go to extra events outside of school- I think he is getting the best end of the deal.
I have to respectfully disagree with you here. Sending Robert Black to run the alternative school is a waste of both talent
and funds. In a purely economic sense, are we supposed to be okay with the fact that we are going to have to hire another administrator with administrator-level pay grade? Seriously? Come on now...that's just gross mismanagement.
As far as Dr. Black's value as an administrator, sure, he's going to have his detractors, especially since he is the administrator who metes out disciplinary measures at the school. I don't doubt there are people who would like to see him go. Heck, there were even things that drove me crazy when I was a student (his stickler rule on shirts being tucked in...as a female it simply wasn't fashionable sometimes
his seemingly-standoffish mannerisms; his conservative view on a Mardi Gras-themed dance we tried to plan...) But he was always fair and even-handed--qualities I believe are much more important in a school administrator. I truly cannot understand the board's decision to oust him as assistant principal.
I hope that the public outcry will wake up the superintendent and the board of education. I'm not here to disparage anyone's character, but in the past decade I have seen Deshler driven into the ground with terrible personnel/managerial decisions. It simply has to stop.
As a resident of Birmingham, I have no tangible stake in the condition of Tuscumbia City Schools. But as a proud Deshler alum I hate seeing my alma mater fall to pieces. Keep fighting the good fight up there in the little T. Y'all are making me proud.
It is a terrible thing to see and have no vision.
