The red cross, from all the donations they gather by claiming they help the needy. Help the needy do what? Certainly not to get free blood when they need it.

People who are needy usually don't have health insurance.

The hospital covers the cost to treat them and passes that cost to those who can pay.

The Red Cross recoups the cost of collecting, testing, storing, and delivering blood by charging the hospitals, not the patients.

Therefore, needy people who can't afford to pay their hospital bills are not paying for donated blood.

That's as clear as I can put it.

Nash earlier stated that both Red Cross and SA were on hand in disasters.

I have been around several  and I have seen the Salvation Army  passing out free chili dogs (and I have eaten a few as well), I've seen the nutcase Pat Robertson's volunteers helping people, and I have even seen the Scientologist at a disaster site giving away free Massages for goodness sake , but I am yet to see the Red Cross at any.

I have two charities, I support - the Salvation Army, and St Jude Hospital.

No support from me for United Way, or CFC as it is known by  Government employees.

Well how odd that people are paying hospitals for treatments. hmmmmmmmmmmm

That's how it works. You pay a hospital for their services. Pretty simple.

You know, if you look up all of these charities, you will find that some sites rate a given charity as good, saying most of the money they take in goes directly to help people, and another site will give them a bad rating, saying only a tiny percentage goes to help people. I have even seen opposing references for St. Judes.

So, like Jimi, I give to my local charities, not any national ones. I give to the food pantry and the local animal rescue group, and the one for abused women and children. I know the people personally, and I know they won't put my donations in their own pockets.

But that doesn't mean I won't drop a few bucks in the kettle when the bell ringer is standing there, because I know that my LOCAL branch of the Salvation Army does a lot of good work, and they use almost ALL of the donation to directly help others.
